Who's done teeth whitening?

I'm thinking about whitening my teeth.  My dentist tried to sell me on the Zoom process at $350.  Anyone used Zoom?  Was it worth it?

  • Have you ever tried the Crest White Strips. I did them, and although they kinda hurt...I have sensitive teeth I guess, they worked. My hygienist thought I went to another dentist to have them whitened.

I would try those before I pay big bucks on something else.

  • I did Britesmile a couple years ago.  It's pretty expensive but it's not as painful as the over-the-counter strips if you have sensitive teeth.  It takes 90 minutes and you can watch tv the whole time.  I got about 14 shades lighter.

  • Tricia, Zoom will whiten your teeth....but it usually isn't a long lasting method, especially if you drink coffee, wine, etc.  If you need a quick fix, its good for that, and $350 isn't a bad price.  But the bleach trays are usually the best things.  Your dentist can make custom trays for you, but most offices usually charge nearly the same about for bleach trays.  I work in a dental office, and the Zoom works so well because it dehydrates your teeth.
  • I had custom molds done of both my upper and lower teeth a few years ago. I just put the gels in the molds and wear them to sleep. It works really well for me and pretty cheap. (Molds were a $50 special to do - which was well before the trend of teeth whitening - and 3 refills of gel is $30, which lasts me 6 months.)
  • I just got Zoom done today, and I'm really happy with the results. They are little sensitive today, but my dentist said that it will just last a day or two. I have to go back in a few weeks to fix an area of bonding that doesn't change colors, but I think it is well worth the money!
