Re: Pen Ryn Mansion/Belle Voir Manor?

  • Sam got married at Pen Ryn. I'd wait for her feedback but I don't think she had any complaints. It was lovely.

I've been to 3 weddings now at pen Ryn and 1 at Belle Vior and IMO, the dinner food was much better at Belle Vior. Just my opinion though.

  • I have never heard a bad thing about either one...I am not sure what month you are planning, but i was at a xmas party at pen ryn and it was INCREDIBLE.  it was absolutely gorgeous in the winter with snow, i can't imagine how pretty it would be in other seasons...

i was also at the glen ford for a holiday party the following year and that was just as nice, also the knowlton mansion is right up there, check them all out.  good luck :)

  • For some reason I thought you were going to go with Talamore. I was a guest to one wedding there and the main complaint from my family was how it's split between 2 floors. All the guests on the 2nd floor were pissed that they had to stay upstairs during the reception entry/introductions and first dances. They were angry that they had to hang over the balcony to watch the entire time. There was a lot of bitching about that but other than that, it was pretty nice. The food was yum.

We've looked at it a few times, and that might be what we go with, but we want to look at a couple of other places too.

What you said about the 2-floor thing at Talamore is one of the things we're concerned about. I don't want people being offended they were sat upstairs, and given the number of people on the darn guest list, we would likely have 180, which is the limit they can have before putting people upstairs.  So I don't want 4 tables up there or anything.

And they had to stay upstairs?  I would rather people come and go as they pleased.  But we did go to a tasting and the food was yummy.

We also need something close to the Turnpike, per my mother's request, for ease of people coming.

Yes, for all the intro/entry/first dances, everyone had to stay upstairs because the bottom floor would just be too crowded. I also know that it was a PITA for the people who had tables on the 2nd floor because they would have to keep going up and down and up and down to their tables. It was a nice place but many people were (openly) complaining about the logistics of it all.

Well, this puts a whole new spin on it.

    Crap.

  • I got married there and they were great... my only complaint was sometimes, the coordinator was hard to get a hold of but when we got close to the date, she was fine. And I also had erin proud so really, even if there was issues, I didnt know about them!

For the price and location, I think it was well worth it.

  • I've never been but have heard good things about Pen Ryn.  Glen Foerd is right up the road and that's where we were going to go until there was a change in plans.  We had a tasting at Glen Foerd and it was really good.  Very interesting venue, cool layout and right on the river.

  • Cara on TK just got married at Pen Ryn in October.  I remember her saying she loved it but the coordinator was hard to get ahold of in the preliminary stages (but not the week of).   I'll let her comment herself on it though.

I went to a wedding at Pen Ryn and it was very nice - the grounds are beautiful.

  • Thanks everyone.

I spoke to the coordinator, and she's supposed to email me some information, but I haven't recieved anything yet.  It's only been an hour though, I should probably give it more time.

I'm just impatient, this is the last place I want us to look before we pull the trigger, and we need to make a darn decision already.

  • My brother got married at Pen Ryn in April 2004 and they had nothing but good things to say about the place.  I have a love affair with Pen Ryn.  It was high up on our list of possible venues.

I had a friend get married at Belle Voir in June 2006.  My only complaint was the ceremony.  It was supposed to be outdoors, but it rained, and their Plan B was to have the bridal party come down the steps, and the couple got married at the bottom of the steps.  I'm sure it was very lovely-- if I could have seen it.  They never set up chairs for anyone, and everyone just stood there.  Towards the end of the ceremony, the bar started setting up for cocktail hours, and everyone's attention was diverted, and I never even heard "you may now kiss the bride".

  • I just had my wedding at Pen Ryn this past October.  It was wonderful, gorgeous venue, great food, good experience for guests.  I had an indoor ceremony (pre-planned to be indoors) and they were able to flip the room during cocktails.  Ditto PP, Mary can be difficult to get ahold of until its "your turn".  But they really do handle everything beautifully.  PM me on The Knot if you want more info or to see pictures.

  • I am scheduled to get married at Pen Ryn in July 2012.  I would love - LOVE! - to chat with someone who has gotten married there about the food.  What did you choose?  Was it good?  Did you have to pay an arm and a leg for the tasting (as it seems we will have to?)  Please email me at emilyfmurphy@gmail.com with any thoughts, since I am not sure I will remember to check back here regularly.  Thanks!
