Ready for snow

For all of us in the Midwest/East Coast....how are you surviving or getting ready for this storm.  They are predicting several feet by Tuesday for us in Cleveland.  The grocery stores and gas stations are packed by everyone getting ready to stay in.  How about where you live?

Re: Ready for snow

  • We are in Indy and it looks like we will avoid the worst of the storm. We're under 2 inches so far.

  • We are in central IL.  We only got about 3-4 inches of snow but the temps are below zero and the wind is some of the strongest I have ever seen.  The snow drifts are closing the roads as fast as the crews are getting them open.   DH works as a nurse at a local trauma center and they have been swamped today with wreck victims.  DH's commute is usually about 40 minutes but this morning it took him just over 1 hr 45 minutes to make it to work.  He is hoping to make it home tonight (left work 35 minutes ago) but is prepared to stop and get a hotel room if he can't.....

Edit-DH made it home.  I-55 was closed for most of the afternoon as they cleaned up a 21 car pile-up and also a hazmat truck that wrecked with a snowplow.  Good luck to all of those who have to suffer through this for the next few days.  I have a 2 hour 75 mile one way commute to work tomorrow if it isn't cancelled....

  • Good grief.  The worst we get is heavy rainfall, and Californians act like idiots, because we're not used to "bad weather".  I would not be able to survive all of your snow conditions ladies!
  • I am also in central IL and we got a decent amount of snow today, but they had it pretty cleaned up by this evening.  We are moving to MI next weekend and I PRAY that the bad weather stays away for our move.  I have been joking that it will be the worst snow storm on the day  that we move, and now I am hoping that my joking doesn't turn into reality!!!

  • I'm in Minnesota, St. Paul to be exact. We got 17 inches, making it the 5th worst blizzard in recorded history. When you add that to what we had before, the snow is taller than our dog. She liked it at first but now that she can't see around the snowbanks on the sidewalks she's not such a fan.

Our stupid landlords didn't bother to actually plow our parking lot all the way through, just the first few feet. We unburied the car yesterday but still couldn't get out because despite other people making paths, the snow was still higher that the bottom of our van. So the first thing we had to do this morning was lower the level of the snow so Darren could get out of the parking lot. It was epic.

  • I'm in Wisconsin..we got 15 inches..but with the winds being so bad..there are 4 foot snow drifts by us
  • We got a pretty decent snowstorm yesterday later afternoon/evening in central IL.  I actually got  my first snow day of the year!  It was pretty nice because I was able to get some Christmas shopping done, and I got about 8 inches chopped off my hair!  Ah!  My students are going to be insane this week, though, especially with break starting on Friday and this snow day today, but it was really nice to get some things done that I was going to have to put off until the weekend.

*If the storm you're getting out east will be anything like what we had, stay in!  The wind was blowing so bad that it was basically zero visibility for the whole afternoon yesterday.

  • Ugh..it sounds like everyone got hit hard.  Cleveland schools are closed for a second day today.  However, even though I live in Cleveland, I work 2 hours south west.  It is not too bad here.  However, I have to drive home today and it is looking pretty bad.

  • Minneapolis & St. Paul schools are closed again too.

Traffic was so bad in downtown Minneapolis last night, and the roads are still really slippery. I left work at 5 last night, waited almost an hour for my bus to show up (the route has buses running every 10 minutes and we still had to wait that long!) and didn't get home until 7:30.

Blizzards are fun the first day, and only if you can be at home. After that, not so much.

  • no snow here yet (Thank God) but in nj we are dealing with weather feeling like below zero with wind chills. i am definately not ready for snow.. or snow days... with Christmas break coming up, i don't need days off now.. i would like them in january and february :)
  • Virginia just got our snow!  We are predicted to end up with 3-5 inches... everything is already shutting down and all of the grocery stores are out of milk and bread!
