More help needed- Christmas Eve Dinner

So Jay and I decided to host Christmas Eve for us and his Dad and two brothers.  We did this last year too last minute and I made ziti.  I'm not sure what to make for this year?

Some thoughts:  ham, shrimp scampi?  None of them are striking me though.

What are you guys making if you are hosting?

Re: More help needed- Christmas Eve Dinner

  • I am not hosting, as we will be with H's family for Christmas, and we'll be going to a Christmas party that night - but my mom always hosts a neighborhood get together and she always makes seafood chowder.  It's a big hit!

  • I like the idea of a soup, stew, chowder something. It's cold and something nice and thick like that always warms you up. My mom usually makes chili on Christmas for lunch after we open presents. You can make some rolls to go on the side if you wanted and then make a nice salad and you're done!
  • We always go to the in-laws on Christmas Eve because its also BIL's bday. Usually we just have finger foods, veggies w/dip, cheeseball, meatballs, sandwiches, etc.

  • We'll be in Atlanta for Christmas, so what we usually do is have dinner at my cousin's house on Christmas Eve.  We basically have what we have for Thanksgiving... turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, etc, etc, etc.

  • On Christmas Eve we traditionally have either Italian or Indian food (both of my uncles are excellent cooks).  So either a big baked pasta dish with sauce & sausages on the side, salad, bread...or an Indian dish (I don't know how to spell what we had last year!)

Keep it more casual - Christmas Day is the big feast day, at least for us.

  • We go to my IL's for Christmas Eve they order Chinese food. Growing up my family always did a big dinner like a ham, turkey or a roast.

  • We always have cioppino and prime rib. Yummy!
