booo furnace!

We are staying at Josh's parents' house tonight due to a nasty oil smell in our house that started Friday and got bad yesterday (we stayed here last night too, but that was planned)... when we went to check it today, you couldn't even walk in without be accosted by the smell.... the landlord came over and checked it out with Josh and the furnace guy and he said that its because it was so cold on Friday and the furnace had to work extra hard so it was burning off a lot so we left a window open to vent the smell out and will hopefully be home tomorrow.

Re: booo furnace!

  • Ugg that sucks and sound really scary. I wouldn't think that it would smell that bad just from working hard. Did he get a real furnace tech to come or get 'a buddy' like our landlord was always doing?

You have such bad luck with apartments, glad you don't own any of them!

  • That sucks and sounds really weird.  Surely it's been colder than it was on Friday, and no one else's furnace got all stinky like yours.  Fishy!

  • It was a real furnace guy, we have the best landlord, he is great and responsive about getting stuff taken care of, he knows Josh's parents live in town but he offered to pay for a hotel if we didn't want to stay with them.

the furnace guy said he had been to like 8 or 9 other houses that had the same problem...  hopefully he is right.

We have a really old furnace in the house, apparently it was the only thing that Jason (our landlord) didn't replace when he redid the house

  • I'm glad you have a great landlord and a real furnace guy!  Hopefully it clears up quickly for you.
