Re: burkems

  • Thank you!! I am very pleased. From the day I went in to be induced I've lost 45 lbs, which is the entire pregnancy weight. I started the ticker from where I was when I got serious about losing the rest of the weight.

I am worried about falling off the wagon, though -  I switched to decaf in the mornings last week and I had really needed that caffeine as an appetite suppressant. I am going to have to re-do what I'm eating now that I'm back to my pre-pg weight and need to get over the hump to get down to my goal weight (which is 5 lbs less than I was when I got pg). Plus, I get less calories the lower my weight gets, but who can complain about that? Smile

  • Yes, I have been super lucky!

    10 weeks total:

I lost 29 lbs in the first week after having her.

Another 5 lbs the week after that.

I lost 1 lb the next week, where I stalled out, and started tracking my food intake at week 4. So, about 10 lbs in 6 weeks.

Do not, I repeat, do NOT beat yourself up about your weight when pg. Eat as healthily as you can, but if you want something, be reasonable about it. I did not gain a lot of weight in the beginning because I was so sick, but 2nd tri I start putting it on a little faster than I wanted to.

I ended up setting my calorie goal (I use livestrong to estimate the amt of cals I need) at maintenance so any weight I would gain would be baby. Tracking helped me feel in control but not deprived- until I went to the dr. and still gained more than I thought was "good" or "normal."

I stopped tracking after that and just let myself gain weight the rest of the pregnancy. I ended up being right around a 30 -35 lb weight gain at my due date, but then was put on bed rest for two more weeks which is when I gained much of the water weight from the high BP.

Moral of the story, the sooner you accept that your body is going to do what it needs to do and relinquish a little control, the happier your pregnancy is!  Keep doing what you're doing and going to the gym/doing yoga as often as you feel good, but don't beat yourself up over NOT doing something you think you "should" be doing. You will be fine!

  • Wow, excellent job!

Thanks for your advice, also. I really appreciate it.

I actually have been tracking on livestrong for about 4 years now-- I definitely want to keep it up throughout the pg. I look at spark people/baby fit also because that actually tells you what you should eat (examples) so I can try to look at that and track on livestrong (I don't like the spark people tracking). It's been pretty hard to hold myself accountable for some of the junk I ate in the first tri...since I have not been very sick (just nauseous and eating carbs...allthetime) I have put on about 5 lbs already, but I guess that's normal...I mean, I am a normal weight to being with...and I know in the 2nd and 3rd I will gain a lot.

I'm very excited I am *starting* to want my healthy stuff again... and hell, if I can make it to the gym at 9,10,11 weeks...I am pretty sure I can keep it up when I have more energy back in the 2nd tri...and I am hoping that allows me to bounce back quicker. We will see. I will just listen to my body, of course.

You should be a motivational speaker for pregnant lady.

If 1 more girl on my baby month board posts how much weight have you gained I'm going to go crazy on someone.

I've put on about 17lbs right now and keep seeing "I've gained 5, I've gained 2."  It made me feel horrible about myself, so I don't go there anymore.
