  Add some vinegar to the wash, 1/2 to 1 cup.

  I add a few drops of dawn dish deterent to the wash. My hubby works in restaurant and it helps.

  Try amonia (probably the same amount as the above mentioned vinegar). Thats what we used as kids for stinky towels.

  I can honestly say that I tried to go down the "Cheer & Gain" route to save a few pennies, and my dh went right out and got our usual Tide (that costs an arm and a leg when not on sale, AND HE DIDN'T EVEN USE MY COUPON TA BOOT, GRR, LOL)--being in construction, it really does help to use Tide...And we finally got our Bounce dryer bar a few months ago, BRILLIANT!!!! Anyone else love it as much as I do?  Perfect for us, as I seem to be the only one who understands the importance of a dryer sheet, especially when we aren't currently using fabric softener.... Now there is no static-ky socks stuck to sweaters (loaded by dh, of course-lol-I personally don't mix shirts and sweaters with socks and underwear, color alike aside, lol)

  But dh did admit that the Gain our 9 yr old son had picked out smelled "nice"-perhaps too nice, hence the quick replacement? lol

  I do this as well with my husband's. He's military (a maintainer) and his clothes get pretty greasy and smelly, so I go this route and usually add in some borax as well.

  My husband works construction, so his clothes smell like sweat something bad when he comes home, and they can knock you down in the summertime! I used to add baking soda to those loads with my regular detergent. That worked fine, then I discovered this laundry detergent made by Arm and Hammer (it's a gold jug). Best stuff ever!!!!

  My husband gets diesel on his clothes sometimes, so I use Tide (took him a year to convince me it was worth it), and add borax to get rid of the smell.  Works like a charm especially if you can wash in hot water.
