Need gift ideas for 11 year old boy

What are some great gifts for boys that are not video game, ipad, ipod, iphone realted? We are trying to find something that is fun but not so electronic based. Seems all kids these days want netbooks, and assorted other things.

Re: Need gift ideas for 11 year old boy

  • Books, models, matchbox cars, Transformers, sports equipment.
    Wedding Countdown Ticker
  • Magazine subscription, books, something hobby related.
  • Turd soap. A windup flashlight. Plastic vomit. A marshmallow shooter. A two headed quarter. A laser pointer for a cat toy. A nice pocket knife. Any of the Captain Underpants book series. Any of these plus candy, lots of it.

SO SINGS MY SOUL *WHAM!* MY SAVIOR GOD TO THEE *WHAM!* HOW GREAT THOU ART *WHAM!* HOW GREAT THOU ART *WHAM!*
  • Captain Underpants is a tad babyish for an eleven. Harry Potter isn't.

Lego Mindstorms are pretty cool for bright kids with an electronic bend.

A really good Swiss Army or pocket knife is generally appreciated at this age. A decent flashlight is good for a kid who camps. DS got a decent digi camera at 10 that he loves.

  • Great ideas- thanks everyone
  • CDs - movies - board games

  • Coming in late here, but I'll try to add to the great lists you've already got!

Are the kids in a snowy area?  Sleds, inflatable tubes, even the block shaped things that form blocks of snow for snowforts are all requested by my 11 year old.  (as are brand name hats and gloves.  The stuff from the skateboard look are huge hits with the kids in his class, even though none of them skateboard, although UnderArmor is pretty big too.)

Does he collect anything like hockey or baseball cards, or TeckDecks?  A new book to store them all in, or a case to store other collectibles in is a good gift and a mother's dream.

I have also found that by 11 they are old enough to grasp a little older kind of board games, Life, Monopoly, etc.

Books are great too.  In our house the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books are getting read at a pace that I still can't believe.

  • I guess I'd ask why you don't want to give someone the gift that they want.  It's not as if giving a kid a flashlight and canteen is going to turn him into a camper, or giving them a hockey stick is going to make them athletic and active.  Our nephews had a stage (around age 10-13) where all they did was play video games.  We got them video games.  Then they outgrew them and got into karate and music (etc).

But to answer your question - - skateboarding stuff, hoodies by Billabong, advanced lego or model sets.  Board games like Risk and Stratego.

  • I did a movie night basket for my niece and nephew- I gave them a GC to the local theatre, a GC for a pizza and a bunch of snack foods like popcorn, boxes of candy, etc.

I love baskets!  This is so cute!

  • Bey Blades (toy stores/Target stores have them)...

    Tech Decks

Books: the Percy Jackson series is good for that age group if he reads.

    Nerf anything...

Eye Clops-night vision goggles for kids

Rock Tumbler if they're into that thing

    Microscope set

  • Fishing gear, skateboarding gear, any type of sporting gear that he is into (baseball, football, soccer, hockey, etc.), a metal dectector, a remote control helicopter or airplane, game tickets, Artemis Fowl or Harry Potter books, Lego Bionicle stuff, Erector sets, a telescope, wallet, etc.
