Can we dial up the positivity on this board?

Not to be critical, but it seems like our daily updates are full of a lot of grumbling. I don't know about ya'll, but I think you get back what you put out there a LOT of the time - so grumbling just creates cause for more grumbling.

Maybe we can change up the 'Moody', and 'Terrible' updates with just MONDAY! or TUESDAY!

or even just Monday Dailies.

I dislike opening up the board and having Moody & Terrible - negative words - being the first thing I see. Sets the tone for how I feel about the place.

Re: Can we dial up the positivity on this board?

  • I do think there is a lot of venting,  but maybe its just s a "safe" place for it?  However, personally, I agree with the "you get out what you put in."  I can always tell when I am due for a vacation because my thinking starts to shift this way.  It's amazing how trying to find a positive in every situation can change my overall outlook for the day.  (Not to say I don't have my fair share of gripes, though).  I've tried to spread this to how I think about others.  I love to people watch, but I admit I used to be pretty judgemental.  Now, when I am bored and people watching, I try to watch for people doing kind things or setting a good example.   Makes it more of a game, too.

  • Thanks for not flaming! :)
  • I'm speaking only for myself here.  I spend the majority of my time in my house, all alone working so when I have social time I don't want to spend it getting the silly things off my chest that I vent about here.  When I finally get out of the house I want to be positive and enjoy myself.

Also, I like the daily themes.  I really don't see any of them as being all that negative and it actually gets people posting.  Life isn't all puppies and rainbows and I'm glad that we all have a place to gripe of we are having a crappy day.

  • I agree that some of us need a place to vent. I'm in a position where I spend most of my time out of the office, so I don't have coworkers to vent to. This place is my safe haven to say you know what, there are things that suck about today, get it out and move on! Plus, I think if you look at any of the "grumbling" posts, you'll find a lot of encouragement all around too.

And yes, many many people in the world are moody on Mondays. I enjoy my job but I'm far from a happy ray of sunshine when the weekend is over. It's ok to acknowledge this.

I do think that a little more positivity on the board wouldn't hurt a bit....but maybe a better way to do that, rather than creating a post that is grumbling about the grumbling (not that there's anything wrong with that ;) )....maybe we could all make a conscious effort to start some posts that ask for everyone to post about the positives in their lives too. I do agree that when you shift your focus to the positive, things really do get better. (Although I get paid to say kum-ba-ya things like that....)

I have NO co workers that I can talk or vent to.  I'm the ONLY female in my company of 17 people and so sometimes, yes, I use the boards for a grumble or vent.

I also don't feel like the boards are overly negative on any given day.  I think we all balance out the daily suggestions of offering the option of it being more of a question.  Moody Monday is a question; Terrible or Terrific Tuesday gives you the option to vent on either end of the spectrum; Wednesday Woes doesn't always mean a bad woe; Thankful Thursday is a great chance to speak positively; Finally Friday/Weekend Plans is generally upbeat and happy b/c people are looking forward the array of (or lack thereof) cool things they have going on.  I would also agree w/ WoW that the daily "themes" gets a few people posting/talking and I like to see some kind of interaction.  I really enjoy reading people's gripes or super awesome news b/c I feel like I sort of connect with them.

Lol - how can I forget? I think I started that one before lovey picked up doing the daily bit. Smile

Now I'm wondering why quite a few of us seem to have no place to vent other than this board...
