What are you doing with your dress?
Just curious...
I know a few people have mentioned their plans for their dress. I'm thinking of making mine into a knee-length cocktail dress. When I told my friend she was horrified because she is saving hers for the daughter she doesn't have yet.
What's everyone thinking of doing?

Re: What are you doing with your dress?
I love the idea of making something for my babies with it. Maybe a special gown they can all wear at some point and then pass it down.
Who knows if this will ever happen or not.. but I really think it would add even more sentimental value to the dress.
I voted for "creative ideas" because I'm not doing any of the above. I'm just hanging onto it forever so I can admire it now and again. Totally boring. But I don't have the heart to cut it up to make something else, nor can I bear to give it away.

I have a desire to make it into a christening gown for my future children. I think the meaning behind that is pretty neat. I wore the dress for a sacrament, and so can they. I need to investigate the cost though.
Saving the gown for their marriage would be nice. But I don't think it'll be in style in 25 years.

This is my mom too! When I mentioned possibly re-selling it, she was horrified!

<a href="http://s773.photobucket.com/albums/yy18/LoveOfMikesLife/?action=viewI'm keeping it to stare at it and admire. I doubt my future-daughter would ever want to wear it as she'll probably want her own dress. Plus, I have all intentions of wearing it again (TTD shoot, "Friends" night with my girlfriends).
I'm also keeping mine just to stare at. I plan to get a big, nice box that will fit under my bed, and stuff it in there as nicely as possible. I don't want to preserve it, because I want to be able to look at it sometimes.
Mine also has a pretty bad rip in the chiffon overlay of the train, but I'm considering having it repaired as long as it's not super expensive. It won't be a perfect repair that you can't see, I just don't want a gaping hole.

Well, I wasn't sure until after the wedding what I would do but here's the deal:
My gown lasted 5 years wrapped in a cotton sheet with hardly a wrinkle or stain on it.
When I finally got engaged to the right man, haha, I took it out to look at it for the first time (Mom had picked it up 5 years earlier and at the time I had experienced a broken engagement and did NOT want to look at it). When we took it out this year, I could see WHY I had chosen this dress years ago. No other dress would do!
So after the wedding, we realized something: even after wearing all day, having it stepped on, having the bustle break, dancing in it... it was still in tip-top shape. Looks great. And people keep commenting (even guys lol) on how much they loved the dress.
Now, I can't bear to chop it up haha.
I've decided to preserve it for a future daughter or niece. Even the seamstress who did the minor alterations said it was a timeless style (and of course, it can be altered to fit trends later too).
Big, big like the moon...
This....except it's actually laying over my desk chair right now.
