Almost Loco!

I didn't know youre from Hoboken! I saw your post on FB the other day and Ive been meaning to post about it but ive been so busy. I'm jealous, I want to make a trip up there so bad to get one of Buddy's cakes but havent had a chance to yet and you live in the same town as his bakery. I am assuming you have tried his cakes? If so how are they? Big Smile

Re: Almost Loco!

  • Yeah, Carlo's is our local bakery, I've been going there for 9 years. Their cannolis are delicious. Actually, our wedding cake came from there since that's the bakery our venue uses. When we went for our tasting we were helped by Frankie and Mauro and took care of the paperwork in Buddy's office, so that was pretty cool, they're all really nice guys.

Their cakes are pretty good, but honestly, since the show became popular the quality has gone downhill as the prices have gone up. They are pretty ridiculously expensive now, not that I blame them since they can get away with it. Plus the lines to get in are usually about a block long. Sadly, no one who lives in Hoboken actually can shop there anymore unless it's like 11 am on a school day.  I would say if you do come up, do it so you can check out the bakery and maybe see some of the people on the show (they do hang out there) but I wouldn't make a special trip just to try the cakes which aren't that great.

We enjoy watching the show since they show so many scenes around Hoboken, plus our wedding venue has been on there a few times.  Hoboken is a really small town (about a square mile) so it's pretty amusing that it's become a tourist spot, but it's been great for local businesses.

If you do decide to come up - try not to do it when the schools are on break since that's when the lines are the worst. And, let me know, I'll come meet you for coffee or a drink!

  • Awesome.. I really want to come up and meet buddy and everything. It sucks their cake quality went down. I assumed it would once the show got popular. The H and I might go one day, and I will definately make sure its when schools not on break lol. Also, meeting for coffee or lunch or something would be awesome :)
