We are having H's family over for Christmas Eve.
Problem #1- We have seating for 6 at our high top table. I need 1 more chair that'll match, is tall enough & pretty cheap. Any ideas?

Problem #2- What to serve? The only food I have planned so far is a smoked ham. What would you serve with it?
Re: Help me with my party
Problem # 1.......IDK sorry
#2.... potato salad, bacon wrapped green beans, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, deviled eggs, corn salad, baked beans, mac n cheese.
I just noticed I have a lot of potatoes and beans in that list.
Could you afford to purchase 2 additional of the leather chairs so you have them? I'm sure you'll have more than 6 guest over again?
Also if you have a counter height bar you could use the additional chairs for that when not in use at the table.
I was thinking of going back to the furniture store where we bought the table to see if I could buy 2 more of the chairs. Does Target/Walmart have cheapo versions of this type of chair that would be okay for now?
No, we don't have a counter height bar, but it's something we were thinking about doing in the future. Maybe the extra chairs will motivate us to do it sooner than later
I have chairs that are the same or similar only regular height, and I know I've seen some of the taller ones lately. I want to say Target. And I though thtye were a good price- I'm thinking $80ish.
As for what to serve, I'm not a ham person myself, but doesn't something like cheesy scalloped potatoes go well with ham?
Great! I'll have to go check it out.
Mac and Cheese I usually use sharp cheddar and Monterrey jack
I have the recipes for the bacon wrapped green beans, deviled eggs, corn salad and baked mac n cheese. I have a recipe for the beans but it is one of those some love and some hate. The potato salad and sweet potato casserole I always let someone else make or I buy it already made. I think everyone knows how to make green bean casserole.
If you want any of those recipes I would be more than happy to share them.
problem #1:
We have hightop table too and we purchased 8 total chairs because we always have a lot of family and friends over. The set only came in with 6 and before we decided to get the other 2 I found some good quality tall chairs at Ross the only thing is it didnt look right for my dining table. We also found some at Ikea. You should check those places out. I know the Ross in Brandon have those tall chairs last time I check. Or I know there's one I think at Bed Bath & Beyond where you can buy this bar stool that has adjustable height, if you have the coupons in the mail you can save some.
problem #2:
The suggestion they gave all sounds good
I have a recipe for baked beans that went over really well @ my nieces b-day party a few weeks ago.
I don't have measurements though =/
2 of the taller cans of baked beans- whatever flavor you prefer, we prefer the country style
1 lb hamburger
green bell pepper- chopped
1 onion - chopped
ketchup
BBQ Sauce
Preheat over to 350* -- bake for 1.5hrs
1. brown hamburger, chop onion, chop green pepper
2. combine beans, hamburger, ketchup, BBQ sauce, green pepper and onion in baking dish
3. bake for 1.5 hrs.
I use those throw away foil baking dish things. They are deep and cheap.
easy peasy, and very tasty
We have the same issue with seating. I really regret buying a high top table now that I realized how hard it is to throw an extra chair or two there when we have a bigger group. I've got 12 people coming for Christmas, and I have no idea what to do.
As for what to serve with the ham, I'd consider Mac & Cheese, Scalloped potatoes, or green bean casserole.
Thanks again everyone for your suggestions & recipes/food ideas. That was just the inspiration I needed.
Problem #1- Solved for now. MIL seems to think BIL won't bring his GF over, so that means 6 guests. And if he does, MIL has a bar stool that she said she'll bring over. That gives us more time to get nice extra seating.
If I were you I would just get one of those fold out tables/chairs. I think Wal-Mart or Target had them on sale for like $35 and you could get fold out chairs. At least that's what I would do..but my family doesn't mind if our table/chairs doesn't look like a Martha Stewart show.
