Mommas

Did any of your babies go through the 4 month wakeful period? I was starting to believe it wasn't true, but Kiley has woke up at 4:30 am Sunday night and stayed up for a bit and then last night got up at 1:30 am.  I'm so use to her STTN, that I'm super tired now! Anyways, if they did go through it, how long did it last? Thanks!

Re: Mommas

  • Yep, Dunc did... lasted just about 3 weeks. We going through it again at 7months, but this time it's fighting any form of nap because he wants to be into and see everthing! Night time is tough because of it.

  • No, I worried and worried and held my breath and he didn't experience it.

Now the time change - I didn't worry about it and it affected him. Bleh.

  • Avery has done it for about 3 weeks. She'd go to bed at 8 get up at 1130, 1, 3, and 5. It sucked. I think she's back on track. For the past 3 nights she's only got up at 3 to eat.

  • I'm not the person to ask this question. Xander went through his first 12 months with wakeful periods!

  • Yes. Jacob was STTN until about 3.5 months, then hit the wakefuls. We tried to sleep train at 4 months and failed, so we just got into a routine at night until we successfully sleep trained at 6 months. Then he STTN until about two weeks ago and we're re-training him now.

I'm sorry you and Kiley are going through this! It's an age when they're aware of you and want to spend more time with you, but it's too soon to sleep train (for most kids), so you're in a difficult situation. With Jacob, it coincided with me starting work, which only added to the guilt. Good luck!

  • We skipped the 4 month, but from 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 months was a nightmare, she was waking every 2-3 hours, sometimes every hour.  Since then it has gotten better, but she's still waking once or twice a night, now (before she did 12 hour stretches).  I keep telling myself 1-2 wake ups is normal, but it definitely doesn't help my level of rest!!

Try Googling wonder weeks.  I have a great blog bookmarked, but I'm at work right now.  They're basically mental growth spurts - the 4 month wakeful is connected to the 19 week wonder week, the one we had trouble with was the 26 week.  It made me more patient knowing what possible things she was going through and that there would eventually be an end.
