Do you know anything about Photoshop?

So my dad is grimacing in many of our wedding pictures - just part of his charm, I guess.  Our photographer offered to Photoshop a picture of me, my mom, my dad and H to make it look like my dad was smiling.  She sent it my way this evening, and while it looks like he's smiling, it doesn't look like my dad, kwim?

To those who know Photoshop, is it possible to pick someone's face from one (slightly different) picture and paste it on to that person's body in a different picture?  My mom is dying to make a holiday card for the first time ever, and she really wants to use a wedding picture where my dad looks like he's happy.

Re: Do you know anything about Photoshop?

  • I know it is possible, but I don't know how to do it. I could ask my H tonight.

Yes, you can do pretty much anything. It's especially easy if the head is in the same orientation but it is possible to do this.

  • Awesome!  So wwyd?  Ask the photog to take his face from one picture and put it on the other?  I feel like I'm being a pain in the ass.

  • If you're not happy with what they did the first time I'd definitely ask your photographer to fix it.  There are multiple ways to do it (clone stamp, copying, etc.) so if they say they can't I'd be willing to try my hand at it.  I've never really touched up photos before but I work in photoshop all.the.time lol.
  • That's so sweet of you!  I'm sure my photog will come up with something so I won't have to bother you.

I tried doing it myself in Paint last night and it actually wasn't half bad!  I'm thinking if it can be done semi-ok in Paint, it HAS to be easy in Photoshop!

  • It's very easy in Photoshop now.  Like magical easy.  With content aware fills it's the easiest and quickest thing to do.  I've replaced almost whole expressions in work I've done before...from eyes to noses to mouths lol

  • Yup, that's not a hard fix at all. I'd also be able to help if needed, I work in Photoshop every day. I removed an entire best man out of a first kiss photo once at a bride's request. Not an easy feat, but I did it. :)
  • That's right - you're the photography queen!

I'll post the two pics here - if anyone can help that'd be great!  Our photog just sent us another one with an unnatural photoshopped smile :(

If this is too much to ask, please don't worry about it.  My dad isn't a natural smile-er, so no one will be surprised by his scowl!

Here's the one where he looks like he hates life:

And here he is loving life:

If this looks easy to anyone, have at it!  I promise I'll love you FOREVER!

  • I haven't been around in a while so I don't know if anyone already did this for you, but I was bored and felt like procrastinating so I figured I'd give it a shot.

And I feel like you haven't been around in forever - what have you been up to?  You've been missed!

  • Glad I could help!

I got a temporary teaching position that has kept me extremely busy for the last six weeks. It ended on Friday (though I still have a stack of grading to get done before the regular teacher returns in January), so I'm back to looking for another full-time job. And back on the Nest!

  • Sorry you're back to job hunting - it's the worst!  What are you looking to teach?  I'll keep my ears open for you.  And are you in school as well or did I make that up?
