Re: Random get to know you POLL
A) Angela (betcha wouldn't have guessed that, huh?)
C) Random things:
1. I was super unathletic in my youth. Never ran the mile, etc. Started exercising regularly in 2004 and have been addicted ever since
2. I dated my husband 6.5 yrs before we got married (dated about 5.5 before engaged)
3. I have almost non-existent pinkie toe nails. Pedicurists (at the more reasonable places) hate when I ask for french toes and say "yes" to the pinkie, too.
4. I used to sew a lot of my clothes when I was younger. Including suit jackets, dressy clothes, etc. I did quilts with my grandma, embroidery, crochet, etc. I just recently started doing a bit of sewing again for the first time in years. And I love it. I remember why I loved it. So much fun. But time consuming.
5. I'm still working at my first "real" job. Have been for about 10yrs now. Wow. Time flies. It's insane, but I have learned to love the insanity. I don't love the cube. But I love the fast-pace.
A) Simone
C) The volume setting on anything must be set to even number if it's based on numbers, sometimes even the bar kind has to have an even number of bars selected.
My feet are always cold.
I can't stand to give away my books, even if some one is just borrowing, I always worry I won't get them back.
My dogs are my life, and I would adopt more but it means I'd probably lose my husband.
I want to have a photo shot with me and a peacock.
A) Rachel
C)
1. I lived in NJ until I was 7, and then moved to CA. I consider myself a CA native.
2. I love yoga, and practice it often, but I am really not into the spiritual side of it.
3. I microwave my kitchen sponges at home a LOT, cause I think they smell funky. And I never use the sponge in the office kitchen. Ew.
4. I can turn my tongue to the right, but not to the left. And I can't curl it.
5. I haven't been awake at midnight on NYE since Y2K.
A) Your Name Rachael
C) Tell us 5 obscure or lesser known things about you... (ETA: If you can't think of 5, that's okay. Just give us 1-2.)
1. I have a weird circulation problem that causes my body to freak out in cold temps. and stop sending blood to my fingers. As a result my fingers turn blue or white and look like a dead persons hand.
2. I'm a horrible gift giver, which is especially hard this time of year. I bought DH's gift in August because thats when he mentioned something he wanted, if I waited to actually go 'Christmas shopping' I would be at a total loss.
A) Hannah
C) Tell us 5 obscure or lesser known things about you...
1) I was born in France because my parents were studying French and working there preparing to teach English in Algeria for a year. I was not expected to be born until after they returned to the states. They were sent back from Algiers to France for not having the right visas (they were not properly informed) and we came back to the U.S. when I was 3 months old.
2) I come from a family of teachers: my mom is an English teacher, my dad was a History professor, my mom's mother was a piano teacher and my mom's father was a History professor.
3) My grandparents' families on my dad's side were both decimated by the Dust Bowl in Kansas and Oklahoma. They came to CA as adolescents with the migration of "Okies." Neither of them went past 8th grade.
4) My DH was in the hospital or bedbound for much of our 2 year engagement.
5) I took 3rd place in an Anne of Green Gables look alike contest.

2) I got kicked out of a Bible College program when I was 19. Apparantly, I have trouble with authority... and being a smart_ass. =/
3) I got my first job when I was 14 (selling souvenirs at the San Jose Giants games). I worked steadily since then, doing different jobs (Starbucks, Jamba Juice, YMCA, and a group home for kids) until a couple of months ago when I quit my job after 5 years. I now volunteer at a crisis pregnancy center and I absolutely love it. I am broke, but so happy.
4) One of my heroes is Mother Teresa. I am fascinated my her and her life. I find her so inspirational, and always find myself daydreaming about doing work like she did.
5) I have no poker face. No matter how hard I try to prevent it, whatever expressions I am feeling show up on my face. My Huz often has to elbow me in public and remind me that I am giving someone the side-eye when I shouldn't be. I'm also a really terrible liar.

War Eagle!
3. I'm a licensed Professional Engineer.
4. I cannot wait to be a mom. It's always been so important to me. Relatedly, I once wrote a college scholarship essay (won the $$ for it too) on how my education would benefit me as a SAHM. I switch between being embarassed and proud of that (the fact I wrote that essay...sometimes I wonder if it was sort of anti-femminist, anti-working mother in a way, other times I'm super proud that I still wanted my college education - in order to make me a more fulfilled person and example to my future children - despite being adament I wanted to be a full time SAHM someday)...ironically, I no longer believe I'll want to SAH fulltime with kiddos. That has gradually changed for me, with age.
5. I love love looooove to wrap presents. I wish I could quit my job during the Holidays and wrap gifts at the mall all day long. My favorite college job was in gift wrap at a department store. Endless ribbon, paper, and supplies to play with...I was never bored. Maybe I'll do that when I have babies and want part time work

1. A photograph my dad took of me frolicking in the ocean when I was 6 or 8 in the North Bay was used as an advertisement for Open Space Preserve and was featured in Newsweek, Time, and a few other nat'l publications. My mom has since lost all copies - she swears there in the house somewhere...
2. I was evacuated from Centennial Park in Atlanta during the 1996 olympics with by BFF. Turns out only our section was evacuated, though we thought the whole park was, when we didn't show up to meet her parents at our designated time, and APB was put out on us. We were eventually reunited at 3 am at a MARTA station. Her parents thought we had been abducted/missing, we thought there may have been a second bomb at the park and her parents were still there. Terrifying night.
3. DH and I got rid of our cable this summer. At first I hated it....I'm now getting used to it and we're saving money. I'll never admit it to him, b/c some days I really just want to veg out to the Food Network, but we're watching a lot less tv, hanging out more playing games, reading more, even working out more.
4. I have a dimple/cleft in my chin - I'm the only person we know of in my family with one - don't know where it came from - I use that sometimes as support for my claim that I was switched at birth (if only I didn't look just like my cousin and if her daughter didn't look just like me - like we could be twins if we weren't 10 years apart)
5. Oh I don't know...I have a very crooked right thumb from breaking it in a soccer tournament when I was in 7th grade - I broke it in the 2nd game and went on to play with it broken for two more games before I'd let my take me to the hospital.

1) I often have dreams about being a waitress. I grew up working in my uncle's restaurant form the age of 13. If waitresses made more money... I'd be one today. The "perks" (food) is great, if you ahve a "bum" customer they're gone within an hour!!
2) I'm a very "sleepy" car person... and Bart too. If I'm a passenger... I have a hard time staying awake! (If I'm driving, with my Starbucks... I'm good!).
3) I LOVE music. I like to have it on ALL.THE.TIME. I have a hard time being in a quiet room. I also like to sign along (even though my voice isn't very good)... and have occasionally embarassed friends and family by signing to the overhead music in a store.
4) I love my role as "mom"... but I REALLY don't like talking about mom things when I'm socializing... especially if I'm with non-parent friends. People assume that cause I'm a mom, I what I want to talk my kid all the time... but really... I just want to talk about what ever interests you. I have interesting things to say too!!!
5) I'm a very social person and I love meeting new people. Although, I have to admitt that 9 months of sobriety during pregnancy... made me painfully aware... that alcohol may have a LOT to do with my interest in social chit chat!
