Think he'll wear it?

I want to buy T this DY braided rubber bracelet.  T loves jewelry...on me.  He's mentioned in the past that he wouldn't mind getting a ring for his right hand middle finger (something with a diamond, like his wedding band).  He's never worn a bracelet or a necklace, but I really think this one fits him perfectly.  I showed it to him and he kind of just looked at me funny. But he didn't say he hated it, so it's a step.

I think it's hot, and it's not studded in diamonds and doesn't scream "I'm a metrosexual!"  (nothing wrong with being a metrosexual, but this does NOT describe T).  T is a work-with-your hands-pass-me-a-power-tool-drink-a-beer-in-a-lawn-chair-type-of-guy.

Up until this past year, he wore Cinch jeans EVERYWHERE.  Now I've finally got him to branch out into some more stylish jeans...and he likes them.  So I'm thinking maybe this is my next step in making him realize how adorable he is and he can pull this off?

Also, keep in mind I have the gift certificate to use and I would also get a sale price.

Re: Think he'll wear it?

  • I don't know T, but he sounds a lot like my H and some other guys I know. And, I don't think there is a any way in hell that many of those guys would wear the bracelet.

Maybe if it were leather? I don't know.

Then again... if he's taken a liking to the stylish jeans, you might have a shot at him liking it.

  • I'm thinking if he gave you a funny look when you mentioned it then he's probably not going to wear it. But if you do decide to get it then I would go with a muted color maybe not the bright blue or the red.

    I agree.

He kind of sounds like C and if C gives me a look I don't think twice about it; I just forget about it.

  • I love this. Dh use to swear he would never wear things like this and guess what? I eased him into it. I think it is really hot and I for one would buy it. It looks extremely "manly" and I think if you ooh and ahh over it (not over doing it) then he may love it.

ETA: Sent this picture to dh and his exact words: "That's nice! Wow!"

  • You know I think T and Steven are a lot alike personality-wise. That being said, there's no way Steven would wear that even though I think it's nice, manly, etc. Plus, given "the look" he gave you I'd be scared to get it and him not like it and/or never wear it.
  • Why would you pay $300 for a RUBBER bracelet?

Why would you pay $300 for a rubber bracelet that you're not sure the recipient will wear?

This seems ridiculous to me (even with the gift card, sale, etc.).  If you're wanting him to branch out and TRY jewelry I would buy him something a little less expensive.  And, I would probably buy a leather bracelet.

  • I wouldn't pay $300.  Hence the gift card and sales.

It's returnable, you know.  I never buy DH nice things because he refuses to tell me anything that he wants, and I really think he'd end up liking it.

I'm not going to buy him some cheap leather bracelet from the Buckle just because you wouldn't buy the rubber one.   If I like it, I like it.

  • I probably wouldn't do it, to be honest, especially if you're not sure he'd like it.

To be fair though, I'm not crazy about the bracelet itself. It's just too preppy for my taste.

Btw, I still haven't gotten my $100 BC Clark certificate! I figure it's either gotten lost in the mail, or maybe it IS some kind of random drawing thing.

I can't believe they haven't sent you one!  That would give me the sads.  I was sad last year because I didn't get one then--so I get your feeling.  Hopefully it will come tomorow!

I guess the bracelet isn't such a great idea.  It's something I think he'd grow to love, but the point of a Christmas present isn't giving something that I would be excited about, is it?  LOL.

Maybe I'll stick with something a little more manly.  Like the nut/bolt/screw/tool divider shelving trays that he wants.  Ugh.  That's just not very fun to buy!

Prettygirl--Will you please buy this for your H?  So I can know that at least one man is making it look hot?!

I think that's a great idea - you know he'll love his shelving trays! And I feel ya - 95% of the time I buy DH a present, I don't even know what it is. He has a wishlist that basically contains computer parts and cards and I don't know what all. The girl that runs the Adafruit company is pretty much my hero, because she takes my money and sends me packages of mystery things that make DH so happy. :)

Maybe you can buy yourself those diamond hoops you've been eyeing with your gift card, too. You know, silver lining and all that.

I have to say, I agree with the sentiment here.  I think there is a happy medium between spending $300 (or, really, IMO anything more than around $50) on a bracelet made out of rubber and going and buying something crappy and mass-produced from The Buckle.  Have you tried looking on Etsy to see if they have any cool men's bracelets?  That's probably what I would do if I were trying to get H to consider jewelry.

  • If you're iffy on whether he will like it, I wouldn't get it for a gift. Maybe you and he can go pick something out together after Christmas, so he can get something he likes and will wear, but you can still help him choose something more stylish.
  • First off, I LOVE it. And I agree that it's something I would have to ease Jake into, but I think he would end up eventually loving it too (and if we were spending that much on each other for Christmas this year, I totally would get it for him). If you think he might grow into liking it, I would seriously consider it because you're right: You can always take it back.

Second... how in the heck did you get him to stop wearing Cinch jeans? Puh-LEASE tell me your secret!!!

  • While I do like the bracelet, T sounds like D.....if I got he side eye, I would probably pass on it. Now if it were in leather I may buy it for myself, but for D not so much!
