It broke my heart not to attend the McCain-Palin rally in Green this afternoon. It was about half an hour away, but I just couldn't break my personal pledge to try to have perfect attendance at school. Our government teacher and ten students took half a day out of school to go.
I listened to it on our local radio station, and it was great. Palin's speech was wonderful, esp. when she said that when someone called her a redneck woman, she said, "why, thank you."
McCain was good, esp. when speaking on Joe the Plumber. His final flourish (actually, the word is peroration
) was very stirring and almost brought tears to my eyes, the "stand up, nothing is inevitable here" closing from the convention.
They're going to be in Ohio tomorrow, too. At this point, judging from polls, he's best off trying to get Colorado and Pennsylvania. Despite previous results and the chance the polls could be all wrong, I think giving up on Virginia would be smart. The leads there are solid 6s and 8s, as opposed to other states with more fluid polls. Pennsylvania esp. could take out Colorado and Virginia losses.
