Some people are real a-holes

And top of the list this morning are bus drivers.  I metro to work, which involves walking about a half a mile from my house to the train pushing my son's stroller.  Without fail, every d@mn morning there is this one intersection where the crosswalk signal goes off right after the left turn signal on the road that runs parallel disappears.  If cars decide to keep turning even though the arrow is gone, they not only stop opposing traffic, but they keep pedestrians from crossing the street (and there are lots of pedestrians since we're talking about an urban area).

This morning this double metro bus decides to turn even though he didn't even get to the intersection until after the arrow was gone.  And of course, because the a-hole metro bus driver flouts the rules, two other a-holes think it's cool for them to go ahead and follow his lead even though the arrow had then been gone for a full 5-10 seconds before they even got to the light.  It's the last guy that almost hit me and my son because I never saw him coming.

It is 20 degrees outside this morning with a windchill of about 10 degrees.  These self-important pricks are sitting in heated 2,000 lbs cages of plastic. steel, and air bags.  Why the F do they think that it is reasonable or anything less than completely d-tastic to nearly run down a mom and her baby who are freezing their butts off trying to make the most economic, traffic minimizing, environmentally conscious commuting decision?  All so that they can end up stuck at the next light anyway.

Happy Wednesday!

  • I feel you pain, the trolley drivers in downtown do the same thing! It's so annoying!
  • Yikes! That is scary!

Not to long ago I saw a guy in an SUV about hit a father and daugther.. In the drivers defense, he had the arrow, and the pedestrian did not have the right of way. Regardless, it was still a little bit scary.

P.S. I can not imagine walking anywhere in 10* weather, you are a trooper!

Yeah, I don't have sympathy for jay walkers.  I am the world's most vigilent pedestrian.  I never walk when I don't have a walk signal- even if it's all clear.  That's why it angers me when self-important a-holes prevent me from walking across the street when I actually do have the signal.  Not only are they not following the rules that I take so seriously, but they are putting mine and my son's lives in danger in order to potentially shave a minute off their morning commute.

  • I hear ya- being a pedestrian scares me.  When I run I'm always on the look out for crazy people not paying attention. I don't run where there are many sidewalks so I'm in the road and people just do.not.pay attention or have no courtesy what so ever.

Normally I will move over a little so that the pedestrian has extra room between me and the shoulder, but some folks barrel down the road @ 50 never moving over an inch. good grief.

  • Ugh.  I try to be mindful of pedestrians especially in this type of weather, even if they're jay walking.  It's freakin cold!  I wouldn't blame you for not wanting to walk down to the cross walk when it's this cold, just hurry up & cross the street if it's not your turn to go.  But, you were following the rules & that just makes the driver a complete dou*he like you said.

Is it possible that he couldn't see that the arrow changed because the bus was blocking it from his point of view?  Not that this is a valid excuse either...

  • That would make me angry too.  How scary that must have been having your son with you!
