Re: Vikings are playing at TCF on Monday
ya I didn't read the post on Fox9 FB page right it says this
"They've got a lot of work ahead, if the Vikings have to play at TCF!! We'll have the latest coming up on Fox at 5!"
I some how missed the word "if" well reading it ops
Here is a link to the fill story.

That is what I am thinking plus think of all the money it would cost to open it up just for one game that means nothing.
I think it's a good idea except for the poor people who have to get it cleaned up in time.
I also think it's a good idea because all the awesome teams play outdoors.
It is happening. Press conference was at 4:00. Well ... on the off chance that the Dome is ready, they'll play at the Dome, but work is already started on preparing TCF because if they wait any longer, they won't have enough time to get TCF ready.
There are a ton of logistical issues to be worked out before Monday, but it's the best option given the circumstances. In addition to all the shoveling ... consession stands have to be set up again, food has to be ordered, beverages have to be ordered (including figuring out what they'll do about alcohol sales - there are no taps in TCF because we're not allowed to sell alcohol at Gopher games), all the plumbing has to be un-winterized, plans for parking and traffic control need to be made (there are night classes to complicate things), they have to figure out what to do with the marks on the field (our marks are not painted on, they're actually colored turf, so to change them means painting over the permanent marks and putting on new ones). The list goes on and on.

i don't even like football but i find this all fascinating! i bet some fans will really LOVE the outdoor football and others will hate it.
either way, it's a good "trial" for those that advocate for an outdoor stadium but have yet to experience a game in one.
Wow that seems like a ton of work for one game, but I suppose there's a small chance that the dome would be done in time. I guess it'll give fans a taste of an outdoor stadium in winter.
Do you work at the U?
I work in Conferences there, so we've been hearing abou this for a few days. I'm excited it's confirmed for real now!

THIS. It's Minnesota - if the Vikings eventually want a new stadium and want an outdoor stadium, well then, they can try it out in the cold!
People in this state are never happy. They wanted outdoor baseball, so they got it. Every game that I went to where it rained (usually a mild sprinkle at worst), somebody bitched about the stadium not having a roof. "OMG I'm meeeeeeeelting!!!!! Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeltiiiiiiiiiiiiing!!"
In my mind, football should always be outdoors, but that's what I'm used to. I admit the Vikes may have a hell of a card to play now for a new stadium. But with a $6 billion deficit in this state, they're gonna have to find a way to pay for it.
What department do you work in at the U?
Mr. Sammy Dog
Ah ... that makes sense.
I work in athletics, so we're busy over here too. Thank goodness I don't work in athletic facilities management, those people have it the worst. They would be happy to have only a 16-hour work day any day between now and Monday!
The poor student intern answering our phone is getting bombarded with questions from people who want to help shovel snow :-)
