aw: a big day coming up for the dh!

the dh is 60 days sober on the 20th of this month. i would like to do something to celebrate this and have our close family members over for dinner and homemade apple cider. i was thinking we could put out some games and have fun as a family, you know? he's so excited to get there that he's put it on the calendar. and this wifey couldn't be more proud of her man!

on a sidenote, he has managed to misplace his 30 day sobriety chip. for those of you who know someone in the AA or NA program; their chips/tags are really important to them. so i'm trying to find a 60 day sobriety chip and i don't know where to begin with looking. does anyone happen to know if you HAVE to attend AA meetings to obtain a chip? we've done them together and he just doesn't like them at all so i would hate to force him to go just so he can get a chip. anyone have any creative ideas in lieu of the 60-day chip that i could do for him if they aren't willing to just hand one over for me to give him on monday?

Re: aw: a big day coming up for the dh!

  • That is such great news Jeni! I think the family night would be really fun, I am always big on family game night.

I don't know about finding a new chip, or a 60 day one, I don't even know where to direct you. You could definitely make him something to commemorate. I can't think of any great ideas at the moment, but is there anything you can get him 60 of (I saw someone did flowers...don't know if he is a flower guy)? Something engraved with the number 60 on it? I will keep my brain going to see if I can think of something else!

  • yay DH! What a wonderful accomplishment. I'm wondering if al-alon would have chips for you to give to loved ones? I have no clue but they may be able to help you.

I think you should get him/make him an ornament commemorating his 60 days since it falls right near Christmas. It could be as simple as a silver ball with 60 on it (or you could make it look like a chip). Hanging it every year will remind him of his accomplishments and constant journey of recovery (can you tell I've spent too much time working w/ addicts?) :)

  • Aww, that's wonderful news!!! Big congratz to your hubby for this accomplishment! I like Rachel's idea for the ornament too. :) I think the family game night sounds like a perfect idea, and I am lipsmacking over the thought of home made apple cider. :-)   I just may need to find a recipe for that to take over my cousin's house on Christmas Eve.
