My Bio
Married Bio
Not that it in ANY way excuses such inhumane behavior - but she was a child herself. She is 19 now, and the events occurred a year and a half ago - so she was 17ish and her baby was a year and a half old at the time. Thus, she was 15-16 when she - a child herself - became a mother.
Like I said, her age in no way excuses her inaction regarding another human life - but I think her age is a major contributing factor to this story and a strong reason why she did nothing to save her son. She probably was too afraid of getting into trouble, too afraid of her partner and influenced by him, or she simply didn't know any better and didn't realize the severity of the injuries.
Horribly sad story no matter how you look at it.
Agreed..

This story has brought me to tears several times in the past year and a half since it was first reported. With the trial occurring while DS was similarly aged, I was a complete mess every time the news mentioned the case.
My breaking point was when Kare11 started showing a picture of the child. That smile. That poor boy. It just kills me to know that not one person acted on his behalf. I just don't understand the depravity of a person who could inflict such harm on a defenseless child.

I understand what you are saying, but I call bullsh*t on this. He had a broken back. That's not something you could overlook.
Judging
I would tend to agree but 1) children (ie the mother) can be stupid and easily dig their heads in the sands of denial or overlook the obvious to justify their (in)action and 2) "broken back" can be used to describe all sorts. I've known of people who "broke their back" bike-riding and were able to walk away and get assistance. I think the generic phrase can be used to describe a whole range of back injuries. Certainly most of them are quite serious - especially if left untreated - but I don't know that the danger or severity always is readily apparent.
