Day Care tipping? help!

For any of you who use day care, how much do you plan on (or have in the past) tipping?  Dylan goes two days a week, and three teachers take care of him.  I want to get each of them a little something but don't know what to spend.  I don't want to go too cheap but can't really afford to spend a lot either.  Any ideas?  My niece goes to the same day care and in the past my sister has gotten them Bath and Body works stuff or chocolate.  I was thinking Gift Cards, but is it too impersonal?  I don't know.  Any ideas are appreciated!  TIA!

Oh if it helps, we pay $33 dollars a day.  Thanks again!

Re: Day Care tipping? help!

  • Brody goes full-time to an in-home DCP and I pay $120 a week. I'm planning on getting the main lady a $60 gift card to a local restaurant so she can enjoy a night out with her family. I'm getting the "helper" a $40 gift card to Walmart. I know that her family struggles to make ends meet, so I figure a gift card to somewhere she can use it for various items would help her out. I'd love to give them both more, as I'm beyond happy with the care they give Brody, but I really can't afford more than that.

  • I would go with a gift card, maybe something like starbucks or a restaurant I would do $15 - $20 per teacher (if that is within budget for you). I would stay away from the lotions, candy, coffee mugs type of gift, most teachers get a ton of that stuff.

  • Thanks!  I will talk it over with DH tonight and see what he wants to do.

  • Annie goes to a center and we pay 360/week.  There are a few ladies that take care of her so I think I'm bringing breakfast tomorrow.  Id love to get each one of them something but it'll be expensive and we pay a lot for daycare.
