I  have a couple questions re: the button monograms you did.

Did you hot glue them?

What did you attach them to?

Did you just wing the monogram or did you follow a stencil or something?

I really like them and want to do some for christmas, since I'm lacking ideas for the parental units.

Re: ***Romarie***

  • no...hot glue is too much work.  lol  I used Zots.  It's just a glue "button" that they sell in the glue section of any craft store.  When I did it, I winged it for the monogram, but looked at a sample from my computer.  It would be VERY easy to print one then just "fill" it in.  So when I had it the way I wanted on the sample page, I transferred it to the scrapbook paper one by one.  I touched the Zot with the button and put it upside down where it will be on the page.  When I got done with a section (say 10-15 buttons) then I would flip them over and glue them into place.

Some helpful tips I wish I had known...

    1.  Try to touch the Zots as little as possible!  They lose tackiness the more they are touched.  That's why I put it straight onto the button from the paper it comes on, and then i slightly touch the outer edge to flip the button over.

    2.  Have an idea what frame you are going with!  I found frames at Walmart that had an 8x10 opening with a mat around it already to add a little extra color and "zing" to the monogram.  Plus with the extra matting, you will have enough room to be able to keep the glass on and protect the monogram  better.

    3.  If you will be doing for instance an 8X10 sheet of paper, only do your monogram about 5 1/2 by 8.  The reason I say that is I used the whole paper and did an 8x10, but then when I bought the frame, it was WAY to huge for the opening and looked ridiculous.  So then there is plenty of "border" paper for the monogram also.

It's really simple and was fun to do! if you have any more question, please ask!  Have Fun!

  • Thanks for the info and helpful hints. I'm going to "try" and start tonight, but I need to find buttons first. I need to get started, not much time left!!!! Did you find your buttons at garage sales or did you buy them??
  • I had a small stash of buttons but not too much. So I went to JoAnn's and bought 2 packages for each momogram in the colors I wanted.  There was a TON left and the packages were $2.99 each I think.  So now I am working on my stash and some people know I would like some so MANY people have given me some! Now I have a HUGE jar full!
