XP: I got a job!

Just got the call this morning.  I was offered the position with a local agency that I had several interviews with.  The pay is what I wanted and would allow me to leave the night job if I decide to.

However, I really want another job I interviewed for.  I think I have a really good chance of getting it, but they aren't even doing 2nd interviews until next week.  The pay would probably be a bit more, but mostly it's the benefits and the people that attract me.  Their policies already include domestic partner so that's a battle I don't have to fight.   They offer 4 weeks vacation your first year.  PLUS, they have onsite daycare, which I know I don't have to worry about for awhile, but it's still a huge bonus.

So give me advice...I'm thinking I call job #2 and tell them about this offer.  I'll try to find out if they want me for a second interview and if/when that might be.  Then I'll accept job #1 but tell them I need to give my night job 2 weeks notice.  This should buy me some time to try to get job#2 and if I don't then job #1 it is.  Does that make sense?

Re: XP: I got a job!

  • oooh good position to be in :)

im not sure i follow though -- you'll accept job 1 but renig if job 2 comes through?

  • YES!!! i'm soooo happy for you!!

    my advice:

call #2 (daycare job) and tell them about offer #1 - see what thier response is and if they can get you in sooner. if so, call #1 and request a week to make your decision (or a few days, depending on what #2 said).  I'd avoid accepting then backing out at all costs just because you dont want ot burn bridges w/o the specific need.

buuuut, a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do, so if they aren't flexible then stick with your plan.

Basically.  I mean I have to take the job.  It's not a bad job by any means, it's just I want job #2.  So I'm just trying to think of a way to buy time so that I can get #2.

Ditto. It looks really bad to accept a job, then leave them in the lurch a week or two later. Ask for some time.
