home daycare gifts...

I know this has been asked a million times, but I'm not sure if my situation is any different...  Cass goes to a home daycare.  There are six kids total.  There are two employees.  One is the homeowner and "head", the other is a previous student of mine (who I hooked up with the job) around 20 who has full time hours.  What do I do for Christmas gifts?  They would probably each prefer cash and I know the younger one lives alone without any family help, so I'm thinking cash would be something she would really appreciate.  So, how much should I give?  The same amount to each?  How do I give it?  Check?  Cash?  In a card?  Should I include a small something else holiday related?  Help!

Re: home daycare gifts...

  • Not sure I am much help since we've never been in the situation - but if it were me, I would give cash (same amount each) in a card that has a nice "thank you for all you do for Cassidy" type of sentiment in it.  I have no idea on the amount though.
  • We use a home daycare as well, and I personally wouldn't give cash.  I would do a gift certificate to someplace.  I feel like a cash gift would have to be a more substantial amount....rather than a $20 gift certificate and an ornament or something along those lines.  Maybe I'm in the minority here, but you already pay these people each week to watch your child, and this is just a thoughtful gesture to show they are appreciated.
  • I feel the same as Kelly.  If I'm going to give cash as a gift I always feel as though it should be substantial.  Otherwise, I feel cheap, ya know?  I like the idea of a restaurant GC.

  • I do a daycare (not home though).  I asked this many times on the MM board and everyone seemed to think a Target G.C. would be best.  So I got both teachers a $20 g.c. there that way they can buy necessities or splurge if they'd like.
  • Most times I do gift cards for manis and pedi. This year I am doing a calender raffle ticket. (30 chances to win awesome prizes) and a gift card somewhere....
