I am being a beyatch on MM.

I love that someone has informed me it is "simple math" yet she has never even bothered to consider the amount she takes home each month is not her yearly salary divided by 12.  Anyhoo.

The holidays make me especially bitchy.

Re: I am being a beyatch on MM.

  • I don't think you sounded bitchy at all. And she was asking for help so she needs to back off you.
I'm so glad to live in a LCOL area. She makes $150k a year and can barely afford a 1BR condo?

She lives in NYC, I think.  I would agree that a condo would be around $350k, probably more.

  • I don't think you're bitchy at all either. What you said makes sense. Personally, I'm wondering how the heII they saved $4k per month when they were only bringing in $7k, with over $2k gone to rent. That leaves $1,000 for everything else per month, including student loan payments. That seems to be stretching it big time, especially living in NY.. but then again, I'm not exactly the most frugal person in the world.

  • If they are bringing in 150Kish, their take home should be approximately 8K per month. It may be more depending on how much is deducted from the paychecks for 401ks, insurance, etc.

I could see one aggressively saving and living on 1K per month, after rent and saving. My expenses, including rent, prior to getting married was $1200 per month, and I rented nice places.

Utilities may be included in the rent, or pretty cheap. No need for a car.

I don't think a $350K condo is out of reach with their income. With a 20% DP, it would be less than their current rent. I do think it is stupid to buy a 1b and want to have a kid.

They are bringing home $111k.  Everything else is her dreaming. Including wanting a $600k house.
