Question for Teachers

Do you ever use the textbooks you used in college? I am debating is I should keep mine or try to sell them back.

Re: Question for Teachers

  • i have all of my criminal justice books (at some point want to teach) and have been debating the same if i'm ever going to have to reference back to them.
  • Hey guys! I haven't been on in a while, but I can answer from my stand point. I teach high school English and I will sometimes reference textbooks. If anything, I use the textbooks from my teaching courses more than my English textbooks that I have.
  • I did not use theoretical textbooks but I did use books that had strategies in them or classroom management techniques in my first couple years teaching.  I think it's pretty easy to see which ones were useful and which ones weren't because I even felt that way when I was reading them in college.

Thoes are the books I am thinking about keeping. One has a lot of ideas for classroom activities and classroom management. The other one is an ESOL book with ideas in it for accommodations.

  • Liz -- it seems the books you are talking about might be worth keeping. I got rid of most of my books but I do have a couple that have been good resources. I guess it depends how much you can get for them. You can find everything online anyway :)
  • It's easier to keep your books than to wish you had!!!  I've used my books several times.  As a veteran teacher, I still go back to look for fresh ideas or to check on best practices.  Also, once you become a teacher you have to go through trainings and get certified in specific areas, your books might come in handy as you go through those classes.
