Do you have your ears pierced? (If no, please explain)

How many times?

How old were you when you got them?

How old would you let a daughter (should you have one) get them?

Re: Non-Clicky Poll: Ear piercing

  • Do you have your ears pierced? Yes

How many times? Currently, twice in each lobe and my cartilage in one ear - I did get a third in each lobe but let them close up (I wear the same earrings all the time unless they fall out somewhere, then it usually takes me at least a month to replace them)

How old were you when you got them? 4 with the bottom holes, 12 with the second set, 19 with the cartilage and 21 with the 3rd set

How old would you let a daughter (should you have one) get them? I have not decided...it depends on when she starts asking me I think. I will probably defer to Daddy on that one because I'm sure he has a stronger opinion on it than I do!

Do you have your ears pierced? (If no, please explain)

Yes, just one in each ear.  I did get my cartlidge in one ear pierced, but it became infected, so I had to let it close up.

    How many times? See above

How old were you when you got them?  Very young.  And it was my aunt (mom's sister) that took me to do it.  I guess my mom was pretty peeved, she didn't clear it through here beforehand (knowing how my aunt is, I can totally see her doing this!).

How old would you let a daughter (should you have one) get them?

I think if we have a daughter, we will wait until she is older and asks to have it done herself.  Probably a convo to have with H :)

  • Do you have your ears pierced? (If no, please explain) Yes.

How many times? Two holes in each lobe. I pierced my own cartridge in the 7th grade (1994 holla!), but let in close in college.

How old were you when you got them? Infant for the first holes (my pediatrician did it), 7th grade for cartridge and then pierced my second holes myself sometime in high school or college, I can't remember. Funny, I lost my diamond hoops this past fall, so all I wear now is the diamonds in the second holes.

How old would you let a daughter (should you have one) get them? I'll probably get them done before a year. That way the baby won't remember, and I can make sure they're cleaned properly.

PS. I hate the infant ear piercing debate. I think it's super stupid.

  • Do you have your ears pierced? (If no, please explain) Yes

How many times? Once in each ear.

How old were you when you got them? It was my 9th or 10th birthday present.

How old would you let a daughter (should you have one) get them?  I'm not sure.  Have to have that discussion with DH.

  • Do you have your ears pierced? (If no, please explain) Yes

How many times? 3 in the left; 1 in the right.

How old were you when you got them? 5 or 6 then again at 11

How old would you let a daughter (should you have one) get them?  yes, Mikayla got hers done by the ped when she was 6 mos.; as she got older she did not like her earrings changed, so we let them close.  When she asks to do it again, we will do it again.

  • Do you have your ears pierced? (If no, please explain) Yes. How many times? One in each ear. How old were you when you got them? I think I was about 10. How old would you let a daughter (should you have one) get them? Probably the same - around 10-12.  DH and I agree that we won't do it until she is old enough to make the decision herself and take care of them.

  • Do you have your ears pierced?  yes

How many times? 1 in one ear, 2 in the other. It was the 80's. Asymmetrical was in.

How old were you when you got them? 11 for the first ones, 15/16 (somewhere in there) for the second one.

How old would you let a daughter (should you have one) get them? 12. She is counting the days. It's an age thing. I want her to be old enough to be able to keep them clean, and old enough to NOT get them caught on swings or a jungle gym and rip out. Ouchies!
  • Do you have your ears pierced?  yes

How many times? 2x in each ear

How old were you when you got them? 4 for the first ones. 20 for the second.  My mom wouldn't let me get them done the 2nd time, so, I did it when I moved out of the house.  However, it turns out she didn't want me to do them because my ears are sensitive and when she pierced mine at age 4, they kept getting infected and she felt awful.  I tried to hide them from her but she saw them and didn't care, ha!

How old would you let a daughter (should you have one) get them? I would probably do them in infancy actually so, they wouldn't remember.  I would talk with DH about it but he probably doesn't care.

  • Do you have your ears pierced? (If no, please explain)  Yes, but I almost never wear earrings.

How many times? Technically, twice in each ear, but the second hole on one side has closed up.

How old were you when you got them?  I can't remember when I got the first hole- I was young.  The second hole I think was in college.

How old would you let a daughter (should you have one) get them? If she wants them, I see no reason why not, as long as she takes care of them.

  • Do you have your ears pierced? (If no, please explain)  Yes, once in each ear.

How many times? One in each ear. I used to have my cartilage, tongue and belly button too. They all began to annoy me at one point or another so I took them out.

How old were you when you got them?  I believe I was 5 for the first holes. 16 for my belly button, 18 for my tongue, 19 for cartilage.

How old would you let a daughter (should you have one) get them? It depends. If everyone thinks she's a boy as a baby, we'll probably do it really young. If not then when she's old enough to take care of them herself.
  • Do you have your ears pierced? (If no, please explain)  Yup.

How many times?  One in each.  And those are my sole piercings.

How old were you when you got them?  It was for my 10th birthday.  And my maternal grandmother fought it like crazy, told my mom she was horrible for letting me do it.  It was the first time I remember speaking up against an adult, when I told my mother that my grandmother was't my mother and shouldn't get a say in my life.

How old would you let a daughter (should you have one) get them?  Same kind of age... 10-ish.  I know a lot of people pierce babies, but I really don't like the way it looks.  Plus, I think it should be the kid's choice.

  • Tupp, you're funny.  And yet again, you're my sister.  I only had one hole in each ear & didn't want more, so I'd wear two different earrings for the asymetry.  I used to even get the sets that were made with one big earring & one small matching one.  Or the one that looked sort of Bajoran & the small one matching it.

For the ones who say they don't want kids to remember... I remember vividly & it's not a negative thing.  Just FYI.  I remember fighting for it, then getting to the mall & the chick putting purple Sharpie dots on my ears to mark the spots & make sure they were even... and then me getting chicken & circling the kiosk a zillion times 'til my mom finally said if I didn't get it done, we were going to leave.  So I bit the bullet & got it done.  It was a needle gun, not the earring gun with pointed-post earrings they use now.  I remember asking her when she was going to do it, and she already had.  And the only thing that actually hurt was that she pinched my ears with her long nails when she put the earrings in.

OMG did you also do the two earrings in one hole thing? That way I could have more earrings without having more holes.

I look at the kids with the big ol grommets in their ears these days and laugh at how bada$$ I thought I was wearing 2 in one hole.

Me in modern times = super lame. LOL

  • Do you have your ears pierced? Yes

How many times? Originally 3 holes each, but I only use one, so the others are probably closed now.

How old were you when you got them? 11 for the first, 18 for the 2nd, 20-something for the third.

How old would you let a daughter (should you have one) get them? I don't have a number in my head, she just needs to be willing to understand that it hurts and she has to be ready, willing, and able to take care of them herself. If she still wants to do it after all that, she'll probably be what, 7-8 minimum?

  • Do you have your ears pierced? (If no, please explain)  yes

How many times? Right now only one hole in each year are open, but I had three in one ear and two in the other.

How old were you when you got them?  I got my first piercing at 5 the others in high school.

How old would you let a daughter (should you have one) get them? I will get them done when she asks to have them done.  I remember begging to get my done.

God, no, I'd have thought they'd open the hole too big!  Also amusing in light of what they wear today.  Personally, I hate those spacers.  I can tolerate all sorts of things on a person, but that just grosses me out.  I'm not supposed to see through any of your body parts.

  • Do you have your ears pierced? (If no, please explain) YesHow many times? 4 on my left ear (I only wear the first- I have 3 in a row, and then the top of my ear), 2 on my right. How old were you when you got them? 12 for my first ones (I got them pierced when I was about 5, they got infected, and my mother had me wait)...16 for my second, 18 for my third and 20 for the top of my ear.How old would you let a daughter (should you have one) get them? Not sure yet.

  • Do you have your ears pierced? (If no, please explain) yesHow many times? just once in eachHow old were you when you got them? about 10. My grandmother and aunt asked my mom if they could do it for my birthday. My sister was also going to get hers done, but she was too scared. It didn't really hurt, but I nearly passed out afterwards. I tend to do that...How old would you let a daughter (should you have one) get them? Whenever she asks. Though I love earrings on baby girls (especially tiny pearls), I think it should be something she wants and asks for. I don't have an age cutoff.
