Holy Crap! Drop-side cribs

Makes me feel better about forcing Miss Ridley into a big girl bed!

Re: Holy Crap! Drop-side cribs

  • It seems like that was coming, they were all getting recalled.  I'm surprised there are any companies that haven't offered a 'fix' to immobilize the drop-side at this point - seems like a huge liability.  We'll continue to use ours now that it's been fixed, and will probably use it for another baby, but it sucks that it couldn't be resold etc.  I wish we never  got the darn thing and that I got the $99 Ikea crib I wanted in the first place :)

  • I just saw this on facebook.  We have a dropside crib that we had already decided to replace. Grace used it and everything obviously was fine and chances are it would also be fine for Liam but I am a major worrier by nature so it makes more sense for us just to replace it.

  • Definitely been a long time coming. I think it's a good idea, although feel for the shorter ladies out there. Obviously, though a step stool is better then putting your baby at risk. We have a drop side crib but the company, Young America by Stanley, has never had a recall  and the thing is rugged. i could barely get the thing to lift up the other day to full position. I'm glad they are regulating them , although companies have till June to sell sell sell!
  • Shorter or pregnant. I'm noticing the larger my belly gets the harder to lower luke into his monsterous crib. :)

We don't have one, but my mom does. Megan is there a way (like you did) to fix them so they don't drop? My mom was going to give us her drop crib for baby 2, but now I'm thinking that might not be a good idea.

  • Ours was recalled so they sent the hardware to immobilize it.  So definately look into whether hers was recalled.  And if not, maybe call the company, bring up the ban on them, and ask what they would suggest?  I'm sure there must be a way to screw the dropside to the frame of the crib, but who knows if that is better or worse?

  • Tripin - DH had decided that if he didn't think the crib would pass the mustard he was going to just put bolts in the bottom of it so it wouldn't drop. Bet your hubby or you dad could do that.

Also, yeah I'm worried about the next belly. Our bathroom sinks are higher (since we're taller) and wider. We thought this was a grand idea but I can barely get to the mirror to apply mascara, already told DH I'm worried about trying to brush my teeth next pregnancy!

I believe the phrase is "pass muster" as in, to be fit for duty.  I'm not sure a condiment would be of any use with a crib.  LOL!  Smile

  • This is so scary.  I remember they were constantly getting recalled when we were crib shopping for Jake, so I was adamant that we get a regular crib w/out drop sides...so glad we went w/ our gut!
