Good Morning :)

Who's here today? What's everyone up to?

I have no good reason to be awake right now (it's 7:00 a.m. West Coast time). I have no good reason as to why I've been awake since 5:25 a.m. Maybe I'm sleeping more soundly now that school is done? Maybe stress REALLY exhausts me more than I realize and/or being a SAHW suits me more than I realize? *shrug* Either way, I've been up for an hour and a half, am not tired at all, and haven't even had my coffee yet.

How are everyone's Thursdays shaping up so far?

Re: Good Morning :)

  • My day started out sucking in a major way. Our furnace decided to die during the night. My dad came over but couldn't fix it. Then I had my friend's fiance come by (he's a tech for the gas company). The good news is I have heat now. Bad news is it could die again at any time and he recommended we replace it. Not the best news for the unemployed girl.

  • Aw, Mames, that sucks! I hope it holds out for a few weeks until you get that new job! :)

My morning is kind of stinky because I'm still mad at DH from last night. He told me last month we were taking the pup with us to his parents house for Christmas. I made it clear that if we did that, he would not be cooped up in the spare room they keep their dog in. He agreed. Last night, I asked where we would put the crate whenever we leave the house (they have a tiny house) and he said we weren't taking it and claims we already discussed this. He said Rufus can just stay in the room with his parents' dog. I am 100% proof positive we never discussed not taking the crate, and what he claims we discussed is the EXACT OPPOSITE of what we actually decided on. He said he refuses to take the crate and I should just find somewhere to kennel him in that case. Yeah, like we're going to find an open kennel spot a week before Christmas!  I'm sorry, but there is no way in hell I'm leaving my dog unattended with another strange dog in a strange room in a strange house. Rufus has been getting fear aggressive lately and I seriously think if we do this, we're going to come home to a bloody dog. DH says I'm overreacting; they're dogs and will be fine.

Oh, and did I mention their dog is a poodle? Rufus has attacked every poodle he's met (other than standard poodles).

We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

  • Mames, that totally sucks! I'm sorry Sad. Hopefully it holds out for a while, like Leigha said.

Leigha -- oy. Your DH's family drama could seriously be a sitcom (you know, it's humorously dramatic and crazy for all of us not living with it!). Honestly, if I were in your shoes, I might spend some time calling kennels today. I wouldn't want to leave Rufus either, but considering the options, I think it may be best/safest. That, or just tell DH you're staying home with the dog if he doesn't load up the crate. See how he responds to that. Wink

  • I already contacted our normal kennel and they're booked. I refuse to leave him boarded at the vet. They just put them in a crate and take them to potty 3 times a day. I'll call the other affordable kennels, but the one I think will have openings is a luxury kennel and we cannot afford that with me about to take a hit in income and not get paid for a month.

ETA: It's a Christmas miracle! I found him a spot, and it's at our normal rate!

SBS, I thought about pulling the "crate goes or I don't" thing the morning we live, but then that would just turn us in to his parents! They did the "daughter's boyfriend doesn't go or I don't go thing" once and his dad refused to get in the car, so him mom left him! And Robert is quite a bit like his mom, as much as he'd never admit it.

  • Bummer Sad

Then I restate my suggestion to tell DH to go to his batsh*t crazy in-laws alone and you party it up with Rufus at home. Smile

Ahhhhhh, I see. Okay, fair enough. I'm glad you found Rufus a good place to go. That sounded like a bad situation all around.

(And, really, I was more suggesting the "the crate goes or I don't" think to get you out of having to see your ILs over Christmas! haha).

P.S. - Are you going to be around December 29 - January 2? I know you're starting your new job, but I'm gonna be in Austin again Smile

  • Morning -- we got a bunch of freezing rain last night and the roads are sheets of ice so I'm working from home today.  Which is awesome especially since I'm on vacation tomorrow too.  I'm so ready for Christmas break.

Mames that royally sucks -- hope your furnace holds on - maybe it will surprise you and make it through the winter.  I'm amazed mine is still running as the inspector told me when I bought my house almost 6 years ago it could go anyday now.  (Knocking on wood as I type)

Leigha -- glad you found a place.  I thought DH had made kennel reservations for our dogs for both this weekend and Christmas but he forgot to call.  Go figure.  I called yesterday and luckily they will let them stay in the same cage and they still had one opening for Christmas.  Not looking forward to the $300 vet bill that the 2 weekends is going to cost us though.

SBS, I did toy with that notion, but thought this was not a proper reason to wind up divorced!

The first place I found, I booked. Then I read the online reviews. Indifferent  So I called another place, and they were all booked, but were accepting pets with their own crates. Their reviews were much better so I switched to them. Totally lol'ing that ultimately his crate still has to be packed up and moved!

And I will be in town for part of that time! (Have to do Christmas with my parents during the weekend, but I will be around the nights of the 29th and 30th! We have to find a time to meet up!

  • Good afternoon! We woke up to less than a half an inch of snow, some freezing rain and icy roads. DH took a vacation day and stayed home with me so we ventured out around lunchtime and did a few errands. I've got a crock pot full of chicken and dumplings (well, dumplings to be added later) so we're just um...hanging out for the rest of the afternoon. Wink
