Re: Throwback Thursday
Favorite Holiday memory: Going to my great aunt's on Christmas Eve. My brother and I were always the only kids and the food was typically terrible, but it was still so fun. She had a PacMan machine, slot machines, crazy dogs to wrestle with and an elevator she let us operate. We got to stay up waaaayyy past bedtime and would both fall asleep on the way home after looking for Rudolph in the sky.
Favorite Snow Day memory (since I am assuming lots of you have snow days today): Sledding- lots and lots of sledding. My parent's house is on a steep hill and if you could turn your sled, you could shoot through the woods, onto our neighbor's yard and then their driveway all the way down to the next road. It was at least a 1/4 mile run. We even had the dog trained to pull the sled back up
The worst was coming back in and getting in a hot bath to warm up. It always made my toes hurt so bad! But then we would sit by a fire and eat Thin Mints dipped into hot milk (I hate hot chocolate).
As a got older, the best memories are from a giant hill on college campus. Stealing cafeteria trays and making human trains for sledding, building ramps, etc. I am so bummed my current house doesn't have a hill.
Your best Holiday tradition: I love how H always hides my presents. Sometimes I know it's coming, other times he might had two and pretend there's only one until way later in the day. He gets so excited about it and I love it. In years past, SIL, MIL and I always went to NYC to see the lights and catch a Christmas show. We haven't done it for the last two years, but it was always a blast. I also enjoy decorating and putting up lights with H the day after Thanksgiving.
Any other news for the day:none yet.Favorite Holiday memory: One year Christmas Eve we were eating dinner at my grandparents house by candle light. All the sudden I realized the house across the way didn't have any lights on so I tried to turn on our lights and the electric was out. We opened presents by candle light and just had a great time.
Favorite Snow Day memory (since I am assuming lots of you have snow days today): Sledding- My grandparents live on a farm with great hills. I would always be able to bring friends and we would sled all day. Then my grandma would make us hot chocolate and let us build a fire.
In college my favorite snow day memory was when our campus got bucket loads of snow and at midnight my roommate, DH, and some other friends went around campus building snowmen, playing in the snow and making snow angels. I also cooked for like 15 people that day. And taught cooking lessons.
Your best Holiday tradition: I love decorating my grandparents house, decorating my parents tree, making candy and cookies with my mom, making candy and cookies with my grandma, and going to the Festival of Lights with DH.
Any other news for the day: We have a snow day at work so I get to sit in my jammies and watch it snow for the 2nd time this week!Favorite Holiday memory: I loved going to my grandparents house on Christmas morning. They only lived a block away so I was really close with them. They always had the best breakfast on Christmas morning.
Favorite Snow Day memory (since I am assuming lots of you have snow days today): There was nothing better than waking up to see that school was closed! It took a lot of snow for it to get called off so snow days were pretty rare. My mom would always take us sledding!
Your best Holiday tradition: I love when DH and I decorate the tree. We always do it together. We put on Christmas music and drink hot chocolate. I also love going downtown to ice skate and go out to dinner.
Any other news for the day: I as well have a snow day and have been in bed all morning! I plan on cleaning off the drive way (thank you snow blower!) and wrapping all my gifts! I might do some baking as wellFavorite Snow Day Memory:
One year, I think I was around 8 or 9, we had gotten a ton of rain, and our backyard had flooded. Must've really been a flood of rain, because I honestly don't ever remember our backyard EVER flooding at any other time during my childhood.
Anyway, before it dried up, the temperature dropped, and everything froze. And we got snow.
That's right - we had our own ice-skating rink, right in our backyard. We didn't have ice skates, but slipping and sliding on the ice in our tennis shoes proved just as fun for us kids.
I'm C&Ping some answers from a poll I did a few weeks ago, so if it sounds familiar, that's why
Favorite Holiday memory: If I had to pick only one, I guess I would say that it was the christmas after we moved to Ohio. Once we were all out of the Santa stage, we adopted the tradition of opening gifts on christmas eve and then sleeping in on christmas morning and having a huge breakfast. I was 14 and really homesick - Christmas was a BFD for my massive family and it was the first time I was away from my extended family for the holiday. We opened our presents and then went to bed. My dad woke us up at 3AM and told us to get dressed and get in the car because we were going home for christmas. We drove all day and had doritos for lunch because nothing else was open. We finally got to my aunt's and surprised them right as they were sitting down to dinner. The look on my grandma's face was priceless. I'm tearing up just thinking about it now!
Favorite Snow Day memory (since I am assuming lots of you have snow days today): When I was 14 we had almost a whole week off because of the snow. I spent every day with my BFF Kate drinking hot chocolate and eating ritz cracker sandwiches.
Your best Holiday tradition: We always got to open one gift on christmas eve. As a child it was a good way to get us past the "too excited to sleep!" stage. Once we were much older, we started doing all of our gifts super late on christmas eve, then sleeping in on christmas day and having a huge breakfast.
Any other news for the day: Nothing exciting, trying to work from home with a 2 year old is very difficult. I'm going to blow everything off after his afternoon nap and go sledding.Baby GIRL EDD 5.21.13

Favorite Holiday memory: When I was a kid, my mom and I always used to play Monopoly on Christmas eve. Then Christmas morning, she'd always make breakfast (and my mom never made breakfast
) Last year, before Christmas, H (who was not H then or even fiance!) and I went to Montgomery Inn for dinner the night before we flew out to see his family for Christmas, then we came home and exchanged gifts. That memory just stands out because of how happy we were. I know these aren't huge awesome events, but they made me feel great.
Also, last year H wrote his dad a letter saying how much he admired him and wanted to thank him for everything, framed it and gave it to him. It made everyone cry. As it turns out, that was his dad's last Christmas, although none of us knew it then. I'm really really glad he got the chance to do that for him.
Favorite Snow Day memory (since I am assuming lots of you have snow days today): I don't really have any in particular!! My senior year, though, we got a ton of snow right after Christmas, so we got snow days the whole first week we were supposed to go back. I worked at a store that was going out of business, and so they wanted me to work every day that I had off. They'd be announcing the next day's school closings at, like, noon. It's silly, but we all just goofed off at work anyway and I made a TON of money!!
Your best Holiday tradition: We don't really have one, except H and I might make a tradition out of going out to dinner before we open our gifts. Oh, and the pets always get Christmas presents.
We even buy my parents' cat and my grandma's dog presents from our cats.
Any other news for the day: I'm off work! Well, I had a meeting that I didn't realize was cancelled, so I went, since it was just down the road and I could borrow H's 4-wheel drive to get there. (I drive a sub-compact. It would've been scary!) I was a little annoyed that I ventured out for nothing, although I did need to go to Kroger so it wasn't a total waste! Our company party is tomorrow so I essentially get a 4-day weekend, besides the tiny bit of paperwork I have to do today.
