** kaesha **

I need some advice.

In looking for a place to live, I realized that we now need to consider the area schools.

Problem is, I have no idea how to go about doing this kind of research. Any advice on where to look? I've started on the school board websites that show the standardized testing results, but I know there's a lot more to the schools than that.

Re: ** kaesha **

  • Yeah... those are pretty meaningless. The literacy results get skewed in areas where there's a higher concentration of immigrants. Let me ask around at work tomorrow and I'll see what I can find.

As far as elementary schools/jhs go, my district, NE2 is pretty good (with the exception of Woodbine)... so... Pleasant View/Don Mills area.

  • Thanks! Right now we're interested either in the west end - around Dufferin/St Clair or Dufferin/Bloor, or the east end around the Danforth.

  • I know the Danforth high schools can be quite rough. I'd be tempted to keep more to the Dufferin side of things.
  • Not kaesha, but I've put out an e-mail to my step-sister.  They live in the Danforth area and she's the kind of crazy organized researcher type person (who also has a 1 y/o and is looking to move) who probably knows some website that's got the info you're looking for.

I'll let you know if/when she gets back to me!

  • Okay, so the consensus at work is you can have the data, but there's no real place for anecdotal stories about schools. I can only speak for the higher education schools, but most along the Bloor strip tend to get more guns and violence (or so my emails from the board are telling me). Are you thinking about the Catholic board at all? 'Cause that's where I'm totally planning on sending my kids.
