Unpopular Opinion Thursday

Let's go!

Re: Unpopular Opinion Thursday

  • My company let someone go yesterday....  It makes me hate my employer that much more.  I was shocked that they would do that 10 days before Christmas.  I think they should have waited until January, the office was buzzing yesterday about how horrible it was.  ( I was thankful to leave for the afternoon.)  It wouldn't have cost them that much to keep her employeed for another month but it sure would have made our office more enjoyable this next week.

This is one of those times where I am thankful that I am not a manager.  :)

  • Yesterday, I found out H isn't coming home for Christmas after all. I put JJ in his crib for almost 10 minutes and let him play while I bawled my eyes out. My mom was mad that I "put him in time out", but mama needed a moment to cry that couldn't wait until he went to sleep.

I don't think Michael Vick should be allowed to own dogs [he said in an interview earlier this week that he wants a dog]. If he DOES get another dog, that dog better come with a 24/7 human bodyguard.

  • I'm so tired of people saying how bad Miley Cyrus is because of that video of her smoking salvia. She's a dumba$$ for letting someone video it but she's 18 and not a 12 year old anymore. When I was 18 and in college I did some questionable things but who didn't at that age! Lay off the poor girl she's acting out and being a typical teenager. Also her parents are getting a divorce I'm sure that's not easy on her :(

I'm pretty sure he's disallowed from having dogs. I think it's disgusting that he would even say that. I don't think this is an unpopular opinion in the least.

  • I am a BIG fan of western medicine. Give me a prescription drug over an herbal remedy any day. I know some people prefer the healthy alternative to prescriptions and OTC drugs, and I can totally respect that... but it's not for me.

(and for the record, yes I am in massive amounts of pain right now and wishing I had something even more substantial than ibuprofen at the moment.)

I'm really sorry to hear this :( You absolutely deserved 10 minutes to cry.

  • I like work parties. I know I'm probably the only one, but our work parties are a blast! I can't wait for our dirty Santa party Friday night. H suggested we find a Sarah Palin book to give Cool. I'm going to the half price books store to see what awesomeness I can find!

My sister works at Half Price Books, and she said people snap up the Sarah Palin books as fast as they get them in.  Hope you find one (or something else even cooler)! I got a book there once for $1 called Barack Obama is Your New Bicycle.

  • Our fifth anniversary is next November and typical "planner" that I am - the husband and I are already researching our trip to death.  Until a few days ago, he wasn't really all that into planning and now all of a sudden he is all gung ho and ready to book something. Huh?

Deep down I know exactly why - because his family spoils the h-e-double l out of his sister and his cousin and he wants to rub it in their faces that we are booking such a nice anniversary trip (he also likes to add a jab about how we pay for everything ourselves).  The thing is, although crap like this is an ego boost to him (and me as well, I will admit), it does not help relations with his parents because his sister gets all twitchy about it which results in his parents feeling like they have to compensate her in some way -it is a vicious competitive cycle that I no longer want to be a part of.

At the same time, if this is what gets our trip booked so I have something really exciting to look forward to the next eleven months.....why not?

That's what I thought - but I was like, "After all you did, why would you publicly say that you want dogs?" I mean, the past is in the past, but talking about owning dogs again? Holy moly.

Thanks. Sucked, but that's the way it goes. I think we'll be able to Skype in on Christmas morning and open presents, so that should be fun. :)

That double sucks that your H will not be home for Christmas and your mom can get over you putting JJ in his crib for 10 mins so you could cry. I would have done the same thing and then told my mom to STFU. It is great that you all can Skype and open gifts together; it won't be the same but close to it.

  • OSUWifey, I'm really sorry to hear that. That sucks, no doubt about it. When will he get to come home next?

stripes, I think I just wouldn't even tell them about your vacation plans! That way it won't taint them in any way. :)

  • If the state senators have nothing better to do than vote on the farking BCS, I'm moving to Canada. The education system is in peril but hell let's waste time and money to coddle Cuban. Good god man if you need somewhere to filter money I've got an account number for you.

Awww, I am SO sorry. That happened to me when dh was deployed. They said he could come home for Christmas but 3 days before they scrapped plans. I had to find a last minute flight (cost me nearly $900) to go to home instead.

Gah. That sucks. :( I feel like a baby for getting really upset over it. I should be used to it - my dad was Army for 24 years, and I can count on one hand the number of Christmases we all spent together as a family - but it's different when it's your dad and it's your H. :P

  • I'm not really a fan of New Year's Resolutions. It's great to set goals and stuff, but why do you have to wait for a certain date to start your goals? I'm not talking about reading this many books in a year or anything like that, because you're really using the year as a timeline. But things like "Be more positive" or the classic "work out, go to the gym, blah, blah, blah". Why not start being positive NOW or go to the gym TODAY? I guess I just don't really get it.

Also, I'm not sure why, but it bothers me when people say/think "this year has been horrible, next year is going to be a good year". First of all, I really doubt the WHOLE year was that bad. Maybe some really bad things happened during that year, but I'm sure some pretty good things happened too. A year is a long time to just lable it bad or good. And second of all, how the heck do you know next year will be a good year? Most bad things happen unexpectedly, so how can you know nothing bad is going to happen?

AMEN to all of this. Verbatim. I would seriously change nothing about this post. At. All.
