Is your dishwasher sucking lately?

It's probably not the DW, but your detergent.  The manufacturers had to change the formula.

The woman in the story is a bit whiny and ridiculous, but it's good to know why my stuff is coming out with a greasy film on it.  It's been driving me crazy.  I'm glad they changed the formula, sounds like the right thing to do.  I'll just buy the brands that have been phosphate free all along until the rest of the manufacturers figure out how to get shiit clean without the phosphate.

  • She needs to get a grip. ""I'm angry at the people who decided that phosphate was growing algae. I'm not sure that I believe that," Wright adds." oh, are you a scientist now?

  • ALL SHE CARES ABOUT IS CLEAN DISHES!! But really, this happened to my inlaws. The plumber told them to stop using Cascade and switch to the Electrasol tabs, which is what we use with no issue.

  • Oh man, we've been getting the black specks on everything! We switched from the tabs to just the gel in the bottle because I thought the powder in the tabs was the culprit. Guess not.

  • That explains a lot!

My bigger problem is that once or twice a month the dishwasher tabs don't dissolve.

  • My husband prefers to hand wash dishes, which I do not understand. But I always pre-rinse anyway. This is interesting though.
  • I have always pre rinsed with sponge and dish soap.
My Nana took hold of the dishwashing chip in my brain - It's not clean unless you know it's clean.

But it does explain the weird colors on some of my pots lately... I couldn't figure out why the outsides were turning blackish.

  • me too, winged.  our dishwasher is now storage for dog supplies.

  • That woman is a moron.

But this is very interesting!  I've always had crappy dishwashers since I moved out of my parents house, so I'm used to pre-washing things.  In our new place, I found I didn't have to pre-wash but then the silverware started to get gross specks on it so I started pre-washing all the dishes again. I'll have to look into getting better detergent.  If anybody knows of a good brand, let me know!

Mr. Winged is wise. Dishwashers are like taking a bath, and hand washing is like taking a shower. With the former, you get generally clean, but there's still a certain amount of stewing in your own filth.  Handwashing guarantees total pure water rinse off.
