Finals are over...but stil in need of well wishes!

Hey ladies!

I am relatively new around here, and typically just lurk or reply, but I am so touched by how supportive everyone is on this board. I just wanted to post a quick note to ask for happy thoughts/well wishes/prayers (if you the praying type) for my DH and I tomorrow.

I am having a partial meniscus-ectomy (via athroscope) and while the surgery itself doesn't worry me and isn't a big deal, this is the first surgery I'll be having with DH taking care of me instead of my mom; the last surgery I had was before DH and I were dating, so we haven't crossed this bridge in our relationship yet....and I am a bad patient: i don't like to take narcotic pain relievers b/c they make me a vegtable, and I try to do more than I can, and I don't like to ask for help....I like to think of it as independence, DH sees it as being stubborn. I know DH is amazing, but he's never had to deal with me in this state.

I am also super freaked out b/c my procedure isn't until lunchtime and the last time I had a surgery that late I got dehydrated and my body went into shock, then I was sick for 2 days (from the anastesia/morphine/vidacin combination) and couldn't keep food in me. I am just so worried about scaring DH with something similar happening this time, and I don't want him to go through that.

Sorry for the long post, I just needed to vent about my worries becuase I have to try to stop thinking about it before DH gets home from work, cause he can read me like a book and if I'm upset he'll make me talk about it, and I don't want to think about it anymore. Whew. Thanks for reading/listening.

  • First of all, congrats on being done with your finals!  That is a great feeling!

Wishing you a good recovery from your surgery!  I am sure your DH will step up, take amazing care of you, and keep in mind that you are in pain and not take any of your "bad patient" comments personally!

  • Sending vibes your way for an easy, successful surgery!! I hope all goes well for you. Keep us updated!
  • Hey girls!

Just wanted to let you know that my surgery went well, and actually faster than originally thought, because my torn meniscus had healed (a Christmas miracle!), but we learned the source of my pain (a fancy word for softening of some cartilage in my knee....)  I also got home much sooner than I thought (about an hour ago) despite my surgery running behind by about 45 mins.

Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes - this is the easiest surgery I've ever had; I actually shocked the nurse because I requested food about 30 seconds after I woke up in recovery. I've surprisingly not been nauseous and my vitals were awesome post-op.

DH is being awesome as he always is and making a grocery run and picking up some good meds for me (i.e. percocet) and he's got me set up on the couch with some Christmas DVDs and a teddy bear and ice for my gigantic knee.

Thanks again for all your positive thoughts and such, I truly believe that is why I am feeling so well. Have great weekends, and I will talk to you all on Monday.
