OMFG, I hate the cold.

More than snow, rain, or even the dead of August heat, I hate the cold, I've decided.  And the world is conspiring against me (plus, we're a family of idiots):

The negative to being the last one out of the office (like tonight) is that I can't just make a mad dash for the door, I have to stop & lock up.  Ugh.

We moved into this house September 1, and as it gets colder & colder, have been lamenting the crappy heat in this place, which makes no sense since it's baseboard.  We kept turning the heat up & up, and were still cold... until yesterday when E looked at it and said, "Is that baseboard closed?"  That slat that goes across the middle of each one?  Every.  Single.  One.  In.  Every.  Single.  Room.  Was.  Closed.  I cringe at the thought of how much energy and money we wasted.  Now we're warm, though.

Except in the basement, which doesn't seem to be heated or insulated.  In fairness, it's all stone & built in 1904 or so.  And it doesn't matter tons, except that that's where the w/d is, and so I just went down to move the cold, wet laundry and it took me 10 minutes to stop shaking, I was so freezing.  And it made me forget the scrub containers I needed to make up some for the gift baskets people have ordered for Christmas.

And why is my dog (who, admittedly, is totally a cold-weather dog, the freak of the family) such a pain?  I took her out when I got home, and since we're not fenced in, I stay with her so she doesn't disappear.  She's good about going in the yard and then coming back, but she's taken to just staying at the bottom of the deck steps and staring at me like an idiot instead of coming back up to come in the house.  I actually have to start walking down the steps toward her to induce her to come up.  And it's not even like I have to say anything different or touch her or anything, just take a step or two down, and she comes running up to the back door.  WTF is that about?
