This winter ...

This winter is kicking my a$$.

I am soooo tired, lazy and just blah. I am irritable a bit more than usual too. I am finding that I am really annoyed with the lack of sunlight and how dark it is in the mornings and evenings. I am getting cracked skin on my hands and all I want to do is eat heavy starchy foods. I never really experienced all of these things in previous winters as much as I am this winter. I find it kind of funny because I am probably the healthiest I have ever been this winter.

Do any of you experience this or anything else when winter hits?

Is there anything you do to help you cope?

Re: This winter ...

  • I was feeling just like that last year. It was rough. I was also in an emotional funk and just couldn't manage to get out of it. I scarfed down bad foods, seemed like exercise and every product I tried didn't help...struggled to feel good in my own skin :( I am not sure anything got me out of it totally, but I did make a point to try different things. For the dry skin I swear by olive oil in the winter. It's not pretty (lol) but I put a thin layer on before bed, all the way down to my feet, then put on socks and long sleeved jammies (don't wanna wreck the sheets). Made a world of difference after just a few applications. I got cracked heels last winter for the first time in my life and I used Flexitol Heel Balm to fix 'em...worked awesome! Maybe start popping  Vitamin D to make up for the lack of sunlight.

  • Definitely vitamin D supplements for the lack of sunlight!  And trying to stay active to keep up your energy and stave off those carby cravings.
  • I was thinking about Vitamin D supplements so I think I will go ahead and pick some up. My dh has a "sunlight simulator" as he gets s.a.d. in winter and I have tried that for two weeks but it doesn't seem to be helping.

I am continuing to workout 4 times a week but it doesn't seem to be helping as much as it did last year.

Thanks ladies, I really appreciate the suggestions!
