Christmas plans

Anyone doing anything fun and/or exciting for the holidays?

H and I are going to visit his BFFFFFF (seriously, they are 2 peas in a freaking pod) for Christmas, then drive home and promptly fly to RI to spend New Year's with the in-laws.

I am looking forward to it because: 1. my neice is adorable, 2. my SIL is Chinese and we are going to make Chinese dumplings for the new year, 3. My SIL is pregnant and she is very cute and I can't wait to see her looking cute AND pregnant.

I am not looking forward to it because: my MIL insists we are going to have twins. First of all, lady, I'm having a hard time having one kid, let alone 2 and secondly, I shudder at the thought of twins Don't jinx me, lady.

Re: Christmas plans

  • We can never really do much around the holidays because on Christmas day we have to do a kiddo exchange with their mom at 2:00pm, so we have to stay local.  I'm also working every day but Friday (to save for mat leave, yay!), so no vacation for me!  Luckily my mom and stepdad offered to drive down for Christmas so I'll get to see them.

I'm baking and decorating a ton of sugar Christmas cookies this weekend as well; Saturday with the kids and Sunday at a party with friends.  Do most people use parchment paper when baking cutouts?  I've heard it helps them cook more evenly, but don't know if it's worth going to buy some.

  • We'll go to my parents' house for dinner and maybe watch a movie.  Pretty boring stuff.  My dad will make a pork loin which is even more boring.

If holiday airfare wasn't so damn expensive, I'd be flying out to spend the holiday with one of you guys instead.  Especially if I wasn't invited.

  • When it looked like maybe my brother wasn't coming and my mom was thinking about a last minute flight, I saw a couple flights from Seattle to San Diego for around $100 one way. Just in case you want to spend Christmas with the Pants family instead.

On Christmas Eve we'll go up to Lorne's grandma's and have dinner with everyone there (and my family will join in, since they're going to be here), then on Christmas day we'll have my family at our place all day. Lorne is planning on cooking a big meal and I'm excited; Lorne is an excellent cook.

  • my H and I have an open house on Christmas Eve for friends and family.  Christmas day we hang out at home and in the evening head to our friends' family's house, it's always a good time there.

  • Going to my aunt and uncle's again to see them and MOJO. Hooray! Another Mojo Christmas! I love that damn dog.

My uncle's a professional chef so I love spending holidays there. Last Christmas we had pork tenderloin and mac & cheese that rivals mine. Mmmmm.

  • Assuming nothing has burst from my loins by then, we're going to make something delicious in the slow cooker and watch movies on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.  Then we'll probably do some house cleaning in anticipation for my in-laws' visit on the 27th.

  • We're taking advantage of this last Christmas with just the two of us.  We're going to sleep in and have brunch.  Later we'll go to my best friend's mom's house and eat delicious homemade Italian food until we bust.  We'll get together with parents in January.

  • Christmas Eve we will go to my in-laws. Christmas morning at our house for Santa's visit, then up to my parents' place for Christmas/my dad's birthday.

This year my sucky cousin and her family are coming from Dallas to see my 90 year old grandma, we're not happy about it. They don't treat my grandma very well when they visit and it really pisses us off. For instance, the last time they came Grandma spent the day cooking dinner. At about 4, they left and went to BW3 to eat and didn't tell Grandma. WTF. Mike said he's going to have words with them if they do anything inconsiderate to her this time.

  • Christmas day Tony's family and some of mine will come to our house.  Xmas eve, Tony and I will just hang out together and get ready.  I think we are going to Disneyland on the 22nd or 23rd.

My sister and her family usually come to xmas at my house on Christmas day but about a week and a half ago my Nephew slipped off a park bench and hit his har so hard he fractured his skull and injured his brain stem.  He's still throwing up all the time from the injury and not supposed to be in the car for more than 15 minutes so they may not be able to come.

  • We go to my mother-in-laws house on Christmas Eve.  Her house is tiny, and F's family is big.  She doesn't really like kids when there are tons of them around.  Six of her grandchildren are grown (Ian is the only kid) but she has 5 great-grandchildren, two of whom are holy terrors.  I'm hoping this is the last year at her house.

Christmas Day we'll go to my parents' in the afternoon for a yummy beef dinner, then to an all-night party at our friends' house.

  • Holy crap!

  • I work on Christmas Eve and then will go to the IL's house for FIL's side of the family's Christmas. Then in the morning we'll sleep in and go back to IL's house for MIL's family and then head to my parents for Christmas dinner. I will spend the next three days recovering from visiting over 100 people in 24 hours.
  • Going to my BIL's house in CT for the weekend. It's our niece's first Christmas! My ILs will be there (of course), but we're staying at a different hotel than they are, thank god. And I"m sure the baby will get more NOLA-themed gifts, so I hope to have stories for y'all.
