A little Christmas survey...

I am in the mood for some Christmas right now, so ...

What is your favorite Christmas Movie?

Favorite Christmas Song?

Favorite Christmas Present of all time?

Favorite gift you gave someone else of all time?

Favorite Christmas memory growing up?

 Here are mine...

What is your favorite Christmas Movie? National Lampoons Christmas Vacation although ELF takes a close 2nd

Favorite Christmas Song? Baby It's Cold Outside - the Vanessa Williams Luther Vandros version. I used to play that song over and over again and drive my sister nuts!

Favorite Christmas Present of all time? My American Girl Doll my mom gave me when I was in about 5th grade. I wanted one for years. I would get the catalogs and the books and pick out the dolls and accessories I wanted and finally got one. It was the greatest Christmas.

Favorite gift you gave someone else of all time? My dad was in the Navy when I was younger and every time he would take me to the base and go in the "gift shop" we would look at the wall of hats - they always had the black hats with the ships names on them in yellow writing, but they never had the ship he was stationed on when he was active duty. His ship was decommissioned. Well I found a store online that made those hats and his ship was on the list. So I ordered the hat and had it embroidered with his title and name on the back of it. When he opened it up on Christmas morning his eyes lit up and I even saw a tear. It was the best Christmas present I ever gave.

Favorite Christmas memory growing up? One year when we were really young maybe 20years ago (ugh I feel old now) My sister and I went to wake up our parents to open gifts on Christmas morning and our little brother (who was 3 at the time) went to look at the tree. My sister and I are jumping on my parents bed doing everything we can to get them up and all of a sudden you hear ... "A choo choo" and then you hear the wistle and the train start going. No one knows to this day how my brother knew it was his gift and how he go it to work. It was a larger train (just the locamotive part) and it had a little switch on the bottom to make it work (should have known then that he would grow up to be an Engineer). It was the cutest and funniest memory of Christmas as a child.

Re: A little Christmas survey...

  • What is your favorite Christmas Movie?

Probably going to have to say the Muppet's Christmas Carol! I love that movie!

    Favorite Christmas Song?

O Holy Night. I'm not sure why, i just think its so beautiful musically, especially when it's 4-part harmony.

Favorite Christmas Present of all time?

I don't really recall alot of the stuff when i was a kid (i know i had some great ones but it feels like so long ago!). So, i'd say when DH bought me my nintendo-DS. i love that thing :)

Favorite gift you gave someone else of all time?

I got DH larry the cable guy tickets one year. He was SOOO excited lol. Other than that, i'm not a great gift-giver i dont think.

    Favorite Christmas memory growing up?

We had to stay in our bedrooms until my parents could "check" and see if Santa had come. We could peer down the hallway adn sometimes sneak out, so my parents eventually had to put up a baby gate in the hall so we wouldn't come out. My mom would make us (me and my 2 sisters) hot chocolate and cinnamon buns and we'd all sit around the tree opening presents in our matching Christmas PJs. Oh those were the days :)

  •  What is your favorite Christmas Movie?Elf! I love that movie. It's so funny! It's been on TV like crazy this year, too.

Favorite Christmas Song?I love singing Silent Night in church on Christmas. I don't know why, it's just so pretty :)

Favorite Christmas Present of all time?I received my first DSLR camera from my parents last Christmas. I looove my camera :D

Favorite gift you gave someone else of all time?I always enjoy giving people framed prints of the photos I take of them. They're always so excited to get them.

Favorite Christmas memory growing up? My parents got me my first cell phone when I was in middle school. I remember opening a fake one, and I was soooo excited. Then I realized it was fake, and I was just devastated. Once I realized it was fake, however, a box started ringing under the tree, and it was my cell phone!! I'm pretty sure there were tears.

  • I love Christmas, so it's going to be too hard to pick just one favorite for these questions!

What is your favorite Christmas Movie?  I love the Muppet's Christmas Carol, too Kim!  Another fav is the original animated Grinch.  Takes me back!

Favorite Christmas Song?  I really love Carol of the Bells and the old beautiful carols like Silent Night and O Holy Night.

Favorite Christmas Present of all time? A new saddle one year.  I was going to try to save and buy my own- but the parents surprised me with one!  My digital camera a couple years ago.  And when Kevin gave me a promise ring after we'd been dating for a year.

Favorite gift you gave someone else of all time? I must be a bad gift-giver, cuz I honestly don't have anything that's jumping out at me!

Favorite Christmas memory growing up?  My mom has been a serious Christmas baker, ever since I can remember. She bakes hundreds of cookies.  As I grew up, I went from tasting to "helping" to really helping.  We would take cookies out to our neighbors, old friends, people at the barn and even send them across the US to her sisters, spreading cheer :)  It gave us time to be mom and daughter together and people really liked them and anticipate them coming each year.  I miss it already, just thinking about it.

  •  What is your favorite Christmas Movie? I used to love Miracle on 34th St. but I haven't seen it in a long time.

Favorite Christmas Song? I love O Holy Night, so it's probably my favorite. I also love all of the Nutcracker music.

Favorite Christmas Present of all time? My first cell phone was that old brick Nokia phone and I had it for several years. I reallly wanted a flip phone, but that was back when flip phones were more money. My dad got me one for Christmas one year and had it activated. I tried to use my phone in the morning, and it wouldn't work, so I came down and demanded my dad fix it, and he was like,"uhh can you wait until after we open presents?"

Favorite gift you gave someone else of all time? My mom's favorite cookbook was a 1975 edition and it totally fell apart. The book had been out of print for many years, but last year I managed to track one down in great condition on ebay. I was so excited to give it to her because she had lost hope of ever getting another one again.

Favorite Christmas memory growing up? My dad always read us "The Night Before Christmas" before we went to bed on Christmas eve. I can't wait until he can read it to his grandkids!
  • What is your favorite Christmas Movie? I still love National Lampoon's Christmas movie!

Favorite Christmas Song?"Last Christmas" The Jimmy Eat World version and "The Christmas Song" by The Ravonettes

Favorite Christmas Present of all time? When I was younger I got the most AMAZING barbie house.  I loved that thing for years and years.  I kind of wish I still had it. :/

Favorite gift you gave someone else of all time?Meh... I don't know.  I gave my sister a new cell phone last year and she was pretty excited.

Favorite Christmas memory growing up? When I was growing up we always used to have an awesome x-mas eve party at my aunt's house with the whole family.  We all exchanged gifts and kids waited until midnight where we all got to open one at the party. Sadly this tradition doesn't happen anymore since everyone in my generation grew up, have kids of their own, made their own traditions, etc. It just fizzled out over the past several years.  I kind of miss it.

I am in the mood for some Christmas right now, so ...

  • What is your favorite Christmas Movie? Miracle on 34th Street

Favorite Christmas Song? I saw three ships...

Favorite Christmas Present of all time? That's a tough one!   There were two- and both were from my mom.  First, I got a kitchenaid mixer the Christmas I finished grad school.   It was my "grown-up" gift!  Second, I got a tea set a couple of years ago that resemble dishes we had growing up.  I was so excited!

Favorite gift you gave someone else of all time? This is going to sound really weird- but a pillow.  I had this pillow, and any time my niece came to visit she wanted to steal it.   She even had it in her bag one time.   So that Christmas, I found her the same pillow.  She went nuts!  The funny thing was, my sister thought I was insane for buying her daughter a pillow.  She couldn't believe that was her favorite gift. Oh-  or the first year Steve and I were dating-  we had gone on vacation together, and I took this picture of him that looked like an album cover- so I used photoshop to make it into an album cover.

Favorite Christmas memory growing up?  I have lots!  But the one that comes to mind right now is how much my dad LOVED Christmas.  And how much time he put into buying my mom something special.   When I was 10, he asked me to make an ornament so he could "hide" emerald earings in the tree.   Just a couple years ago, he bought my mom a necklace- and called me as I was about to drive home (from Chicago) to find a brown sweater for my mom b/c she had a brown sweater when they were dating, and he wanted to "recreate" a date nearly 50 years later. Of course I said "sure,  see you at midnight instead of 7pm!"

  • What is your favorite Christmas Movie? The Grinch the movie- I watch it every Christmas Eve before I go to sleep, and I love the movie "Three Wishes"- it was an ABC Family movie but it was not on this year :(

Favorite Christmas Song? All I want for Christmas- Mariah Carey

Favorite Christmas Present of all time? Two years ago my parents bought me a laptop.  When I was little I remember coming home from Christmas Eve at my aunts and there was bikes in our foyer.  My parents said "I Guess Santa came early this year"

Favorite gift you gave someone else of all time? my brother and I bought my mom as expensive vacuum a few years ago- she is a cleaning fanatic so she loved it...and was very suprised.

Favorite Christmas memory growing up?  when I was little on Christmas Eve we used to go to my aunts (Dad's Sister- has a lot of money) and celebrate christmas eve in her huge house, and my brother and I was the only little ones at the time, all our cousins on my Dad's side are older, we would eat dinner and then gifts, and then go home.  But after my grandma got sick there was family issues and we stopped going there.

Christmas Day was always with my mom's side of the family, and my brother and I were the oldest children there.. my younger female cousins used to play with my long hair for hours!!!

  • What is your favorite Christmas Movie? That's a tough one because I love so many - Wonderful Life, Meet Me In St. Louis, Christmas Vacation, Elf, All the sappy ABC Family and Lifetime movies, all the animated classics, etc.  It's easier to say which ones I don't like - the live version of The Grinch (just not the same for me), a Lifetime one where Linda Hamilton is nearly destitute after a divorce and has to struggle to get back on her feet, and anything that puts Christmas in a bad light.

Favorite Christmas Song? Anything sung by Karen Carpenter or B.E. Taylor, too many more to list.

Favorite Christmas Present of all time? I was always thrilled to get books growing up.  My grandmother always got my cousin and I the same outfit (sometimes in different colors, sometimes not).  I just remember my family being incredibly generous - no one thing stands out right now.  I do remember peeking enough to see a ring box in a jewelry bag that my ex-boyfriend had hidden.  I ended up being really happy with the ruby ring inside, but I THOUGHT I was getting engaged that Christmas so it was a little bittersweet at first.  That taught me never to snoop!

Favorite gift you gave someone else of all time? One year I found a really pretty wooden carving of Mary, Joseph and Jesus that I bought for my parents in September that I was excited to give them.  It stays on their mantel all year.  When I was a senior in college my brother and I had our portrait taken (hadn't had one since we were litte), had it framed and gave it to our parents.  They were really surprised and excited by that, too.  A couple of years ago, I was thrilled to find the box set of Little House on the Prairie books, and I figured my nieces were at the perfect age for them.  I think I ended up being more excited by that than they were, though.

Favorite Christmas memory growing up? Every year we would go to my grandparents' (about 2 hours away), and my cousins would be there, too.  All of us would spend a few days there playing, visiting family (most extended family lives in the same town) and having fun.  My mother took care of our stockings and presents, my grandmother took care of the food, and my father took care of the "magic."  Every Christmas Eve he would gather us together and read a story called "Barrington Bunny" in a book called "The Way of the Wolf."  It's a little bit sad, but beautiful.  When he tucked us in to bed, he would have us look out the window to see if we could see Santa's sleigh and say, "Listen...do you hear sleigh bells?!"  In the morning, we were allowed to open only the presents in our stockings before the adults got up.  We all have really cool stockings that my mother hand made us out of felt with our names on them.  Then there were tons of presents and great food and warmth and family.  No wonder I love Christmas so much!

  • What is your favorite Christmas Movie?  A Very Brady Christmas...watched it with my mom when it was first on when I was in 3rd or 4th grade and love it

Favorite Christmas Song?  Away in the Manger, Elfie the Elf (from when I was a kid, it is on the Wee Sing for Christmas tape/CD,) I want a hippopotamus for Christmas, Grandma got run over by a reindeer, and Nuttin for Christmas

Favorite Christmas Present of all time? Kitchen set when I was little, Nintendo with power pad when I was in fourth grade

Favorite gift you gave someone else of all time? Tinkerbell blanket for a friend who loves Tinkerbell and it was before Tinkerbell got popular again, autographed book for fiance (now DH) last year

Favorite Christmas memory growing up?  So many favorites...running in and seeing my kitchen set was a good one, also getting Nintendo games one year and staying up late and playing them with my brother
