I got a late email from the principal tonight saying that our trip was suddenly not going to be a county-sanctioned trip even though the club sponsor (I'm just a chaperon) had already done the paperwork and everything was signed and approved. That means that us teachers would be assuming complete personal liability for anything that happened on the drive or the trip itself. Basically, the trip is now canceled.
Honestly, it's a bunch of BS. I have intense rage mostly for the students because this was a once in a lifetime kind of thing for most of them.
Update to update: We are back on as an officially sanctioned trip! Apparently the county was worried about a potential storm that was maybe supposed to hit tonight, but now it's not so we're good. It still irritates me though because by the time they sent the email at 8pm, all the weather people had been saying for half the day that the storm was not an issue in our area.
