First Christmas Being Married!

DH and I have been together going on 6 years. We have lived together going on 4 years. So this Christmas really feels no different than any other. :( I am a little bummed about it. I figured this year would be AWESOME!!!

But Christmas has been different ever since December 2008 when my Grandmother (Mom's Mom) passed from Lung Cancer. This year will just as difficult since my Dad's Mom passed November 6. I was so thankful to have her at my reception, though. (Since our wedding was at a waterfall she couldn't make it to the actual wedding) I haven't put up any decorations nor a tree. I don't feel in the spirit of Christmas. Not to mention most of my family has to work. However, we are doing Dirty Santa (both Sides plus Husbands Dads Family too) I have been trying to come up with so cool gift ideas.$20 max.

What kind of things are other June 2010 Newlyweds planning for their first Christmas?

Re: First Christmas Being Married!

  • I know you don't feel like it, but you should try to put up a few decorations. It would really help to put you in the Christmas mood. H and I have Christmas music playing in our house all the time! The bright lights and colors are really mood boosters.

Our first married Christmas is going to be a lot like last year. Last year was the first year we lived together and we wanted to start some traditions. H makes a yummy dinner on Christmas Eve. We light a fire in the fireplace and watch a Christmas movie (usually Muppet Christmas Carol or It's a Wonderful Life.) We each open one present at midnight.

This year, we are also doing stockings for each other. We got some cute stockings as a wedding gift and each took $20 and bought little stocking stuffers.

The only thing different this year is that H's mom and family are in New York so instead of splitting Christmas day between our families, we'll go to my parent's in the morning and then just come home.

I don't know what Dirty Santa is!

  • Sorry for your resent loss.

H and I will be celebrating our 7 year anniversary this month so I know how you feel about things not really being any different.  This year we're going to dinner at my grandparents on the 24th and we'll probably be opening gifts there after dinner. Then going to visit H's side of the family. On the 25th I would like to be home listening to Christmas carols and opening our presents and eating. We'll see if that happens.

Good luck finding a gift. I'm also having a hard time figuring out what to by my parents.

  • I know exactly how you feel. H and I are going out to celebrate our un-official anniversary of 4 yrs tonight.

This is the second year we will not be with family or friends for Christmas. All of our family is in Ohio and are not able to come down to see us. Last year, H worked nearly all day. I cooked dinner and it sat until he came home and we were able to eat together.

I agree with the other ladies about putting up some decorations and getting in the mood. Do you like to bake or anything? I plan on keeping myself busy and my mind off of things next week by doing a lot of baking and cooking.

  • My parents and I did our family tradition last night! That sorta helped with my Christmas spirit. We made candy last night. Bad news I have a belly ache! haha it was all worth it! I bet we made over 200 Chocolate covered Peanut butter balls, probably 2 pound of fudge, chocolate covered pretzels and my new favortie Rolo's melted over pretzels! Mmmm so easy and so delicious.

Thanks ladies for lifting my spirits and I am thinking since it was 2 years ago today my Granny Wanda passed I might put up the tree in remembrance for her...  Now to find a place for it! :)
