Pumellos..

I don't know if I am just weird and have never been adventurous in the produce section of the grocery store to find these, or if not many people eat them! One of my employees introduced me to them this week and I just ate my first one tonight. Delicious!!! Love how it is a cross between a grapefruit and orange! I only ate half of one at the moment because they are huge!

Am I behind the times? Have you ladies had one yet?

Re: Pumellos..

  • I haven't but they were on a recent episode of Chopped on Food Network. They looked pretty good, but I'm not a big grapefruit fan.
  • We actually had a tree growing up.

We call them Shadocks, not Pomellos.    I frigging love them.

My grandmother would also  take the think rind and make a sweet, but tarty candy from them.  They were delicious.

Are you a Chopped fan too!  I love that show.

I've seen them but have not tried them.  I've always wanted to try the star fruit, because it's so pretty.  But, pretty does not mean it's good.  I learned that from my papaya experience.  We first tried it in Hawaii and we were not fans of it!
