I'm heading to DC for new years. We are going to the party at the Hilton. I want to priceline for New Year's day so we can stay an extra night and give my friend a break and a chance to sleep in.
suggestions for areas and a good amount for at least a 3 star?

i haven't done priceline but we got the kimpton palomar on hotwire twice - i think it was 4 or 4.5 stars and it was $105/night. that falls under the dupont/embassy row umbrella and i do like that area.
i live near thomas circle and there are a bunch of hotels nearby but i'm not sure what neighborhood that is considered on priceline & hotwire, it may fall under downtown . . .
