Study: Fox News makes you LESS informed
Confirmation of what I already believed, but this is pretty interesting.
Dang, I wish I could share this stuff with my students...

Re: Study: Fox News makes you LESS informed
Ditto - I was wondering if to send it to my dad
and start WWIII.
Well, FOX news watcher will now butt in...
To quote:
"By the way, the rest of the media was not blameless. CNN and the broadcast network news operations fared only slightly better in many cases. Even MSNBC, which had the best record of accurately informing viewers, has a ways to go before it can brag about it."
My opinion:
1. Who writes "By the way" in an article?!
2. Did you see the bit on CNN? Or MSNBC?
3. Considering FOX News has the highest ratings of all the cable networks, they are obviously doing something right!
4. Maybe it is all the people in Maryland and not FOX News watchers!!!
5. How's that "Hope and Change" going for you all?
PAL/PGAL Welcome
Tea Time for Lulu
It's going well except for the fact that the Republicans are delaying any progress. The economy is improving, the health care bill has been enacted, the tax cuts have been maintained, and aside from all the GOP forestalling and headbutting, there is some compromise going on.
All media is biased whether it's right or left and I don't feel any less informed because I watch Fox News or listen to our talk radio station that carries Fox News. I figure I get it from both sides every day but I agree with one side a lot more.
ETA: The columnist said that we are a democracy but we are a Constiutional Republic.
Well...here are a few things of note:
1) Created more private sector jobs in 2010 than Bush did in his ENTIRE presidency.
2) Signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act which restores basic protections against pay discrimination for women and other workers.
3)Health Care Reform Act: prevents insurance companies from denying insurance b/c of a pre existing condition!
4)Increased funding, signficantly to the Violence Against Women Act
5) Lifted restrictions granting Cuban Americans unrestricted rights to visit family and send remittences to the Island.
6)Expanded Pell Grants, which help low-income students pay for college
7) Cut prescription drug costs for Medicare recipients by 50%
Just to name a few...I'm still very HOPEFUL and am seeing CHANGE
this is the most cynical bullshit ever.
you are also hoping for change - everyone hopes for a better life and they want to change for the better. being condescending and snide about it just makes me think that you were happy with the Bush-era downward spiral and are looking to - at best- stagnate, or at worst take a giant step backwards to a time when racism, classicism, and illiteracy ran rampant.
PS: DADT was repealed...or were you not hoping for that change, either? The actual study is really interesting. I hate Fox news as much as anyone (and I do pretty much believe the points the article is trying to make), but that article really put me off. I feel like the way it's written isn't doing anything but provoking and polarizing people. I just don't think it's necessary to call millions of people stupid in order to make a point. All the attacking back and forth is tiring.
After being put in place by a democratic president...
I got your back
I wouldn't expect too much support, though...seeing as we're in the Bay Area.
...yes... in an attempt to keep soldiers from being murdered over their sexuality. At the time it was put into place (during the Clinton administration, who I assume you're referring to), it was to protect soldiers who were being harassed, discriminated against, and even killed for being gay. It meant that they did not *have* to disclose their sexuality, thereby protecting them. Now we're at a point where it is no longer protecting soldiers, but doing them a disservice, so it was time to repeal. And they did. Both actions were in the interest of supporting soldiers who identify as LGBT, so I'm not sure what your point is.

Purple bear me to it!
Well, I haven't been on since I replied and I see there has been some debate. Although, I did not mean for hits below the belt.
While I am a proud Republican I did not agree with some of Bush-era policy nor should any Obama supporter agree with all of his policies. I believe in being informed and arguing with respect. Regardless, I feel in no way there was racism, classicism and illiteracy running rampant. I am disgusted with how Obama is more of a celebrity than a president.
I will just leave it at that because there is no point in sharing my point of view beyond what I have shared.
PAL/PGAL Welcome

In regards to DADT, I still feel great worry for those soldiers who will be openly gay...I don't think everyone is ready for that change. For me, I am not a soldier so it is hard for me to state if that truly a good change.

see - and that was all reasoned and well-argued. But the knee jerk "how's that hope and change working out?" that comes from so many republicans (most irritatingly Sarah Palin who says "hopey-changey") just makes it seem like any progress is ridiculous and unwelcome.
I grew up in a military household and feel that gays will have the same troubles that women face but that with every passing recruitment season it becomes less of an issue. I didn't mean to make this about DADT, it was just the most recent change and it hadn't been listed yet.
