Ugh...

*Sorry, i'm just going to rant for a bit and may or may not make sense...

So, last night my bet friend and i saw The Nutcracker, danced by the ballet company i grew up dancing in in NM. It was *awful*! Sad I'm so disappointed!! I understand that this year they have a small group of girls and that they're not very good, but come on! I know that talent and technique can ebb and flow, but they haven't had a good group of dancers since me and my friends were there. I'm sorry to sound conceited, but it's true. My dance teacher has even said so much.

But here's the thing; this group of 'dancers' is the tail end of the girls that were growing up while my other dance teacher (the wife of the husband/wife team) was diagnosed, treated and eventually passed away from ovarian cancer. Crying So i understand that they didn't have the energy or patience to put in to these girls dance education for the past few years.

And now they're trying to distract us from the fact that they can't dance by adding gimmicks, and it just makes no sense and it's making me angry. Angry And i think the audience feel the same way about the gimmicks cuz they weren't very responsive.

I worry that it's starting to become the laughing stock of the holiday season here in my hometown. Tongue Tied But they'll always have audience members cuz it's The Nutcracker and cuz parents will always pay money to see their kids dance on stage, no matter how bad they are.

I told my best friend last night that my brain is angry and my heart is sad. Broken Heart

Re: Ugh...

  • So sorry that something that meant so much to you has went downhill. I think when we don't live near where we grew up, we don't get to see the gradual change in things and it can be very upbrupt. I haven't seen anything that I was involved in again though. And you are right that most parents don't know what good ballet is and will just love seeing their child on stage. Still sure you don't want to go into teaching ballet to littler ones?

  • I might have to!! Wink I've been toying with the idea of coming back home to NM when i'm done with school so i can whip the dance studio and the company in to shape!! We'll see how that pans out...
