Housewarming Gift Ideas

My best friend and her husband recently purchased their first home.  I want to get them a housewarming gift but I am clueless as to what to get them.  I've never bought a housewarming gift so I don't know what's appropriate.  Some background - they bought a home in the Vancouver area.  I've only visited their home once and this was when they were living in a tiny apartment in Winnipeg.  I don't know what they need or even what my best friend's decorating style will be (she's going to school to be an interior decorater so I imagine she has some decoration plans in mind already).  Any ideas ladies?  TIA!

  • My mom just gave me an idea for a Christmas gift that I wish I had thought of for my friend's housewarming a couple weeks ago...an address stamp!  They have some really cute ones on Etsy...the only thing is that if you're in a time crunch, it might take a while...

  • Yeah, we have an address embosser that I got from Paper Source....I love that thing!  That would make a great gift.

  • One of my favourite hostess gifts that I've received was a set of Crate and Barrel glass coasters that you could put photos in. When I say that outloud, it sounds totally lame, but I really love them.
  • These are all great ideas!  I think I may do a small gift basket with a combination of all your ideas - a bottle of wine, addressing stamp and coasters.  I'm not super pressed on time so I can create something nice and search for good deals.  Thanks so much for the awesome ideas!

Kaesha - those coasters sound awesome.  For some reason I am on a coaster kick... I even bought DH coasters for Christmas.  Ok so they are also for me to use but we both were talking about needing coasters and wanting to hold out for something "cool" or "nice".  So I found an Etsy vendor that is creating map coasters - one coaster map for each location we've lived in since we've been together and our hometowns.  Can't wait to get them!
