What to tip the paper girl?
I receive the Sunday paper. The other day I was left newspaper during the week with a note in it from the paper girl wishing people a nice holiday and she put her name and address in the note, claiming that other recipients had asked her for it.
Do I tip and how much? I was thinking of a $10 gift card to Target, if anything. Opinions?
Re: What to tip the paper girl?
That seems just the right amount, especially since you only get the Sunday paper....which probably means it is heavier and bulkier on those days for her to carry. I was once upon a time a paper delivery girl and it was a really nice surprise when I got a little extra something on Christmas day ( I never actually wrote a note like this individual did)
I say gift card to Target is nice, or just have some cash ready in an envelope for her that morning in the place she usually places the paper.
I would just give her $10 cash.
Do you tip her regularly when you pay your bill, or is billing done by a service? I was a papergirl, and I gave everyone the same service, but I thought less of the cheapos! In those days, the only real money a papergirl/boy made was through tips.
I think I tipped $25 last year...maybe? I can't remember, but we get it every day except Saturday. I don't think we did $50, but maybe. We got a great deal on the paper, so I know we tipped her more than the subscription rate.
This year I'm not tipping. My paper regularly ends up in my flowers (crushing them) and when we were in Hawaii, and put a HOLD on the delivery, she delivered every single day, and just threw the new papers on top of the pile of 1-2 week old papers that were screaming to everyone else, "We're not home, please rob us". Now that I leave at 5:30 I pass her as she is delivering papers in the morning. She drives way too fast (it is a gated townhouse community) and drives all over the road and doesn't make way for on coming cars. So, she gets nothing this year.
I don't tip regularly and it is billed via a service. I can just mail her $10.
Thanks everyone for the advice.
