Christmas snack ideas?

We are having our families over on the 26th for 'Christmas'. I have asked folks to come by around 2:00 for gifts and some visiting, then I figured we'd eat dinner at 6:00. I want to have some snack foods out, but I don't wantthem to be too filling and have people too full for supper. Any suggestions? So far I am thinking:

-nuts and dried fruit

-crackers/cheese/meat tray

-cheese ball or spinach dip w/ pumpernickel

-mini quiche

Re: Christmas snack ideas?

  • For appies I am doing:

Jalapeno Popper Dip with celery, carrots and cucumbers to dip. (I can't link the recipe right now but its on AnniesEats blog.)

Goat cheese with crackers and kubasa.

.... thats actually it. My family is all trying to lose weight so I know people won't be snacking a lot, which makes my job easier.

  • I made some really tasty appies from the Eat Shrink and Be Merry Cookbook recently. It was a roumaki with a water chesnut, and marinated chicken which was wrapped with bacon and baked. If you want the full recipe let me know.

  • We did our Christmas last weekend and my mom brought the appies.  She had crackers and cheese, some sort of dip (I didn't try it) and bacon wrapped water chestnuts that people went nutso over.  We had much less time between appies and dinner than you're having and everybody still ate a huge amount of food at dinner, so I think it was enough.
