Christmas gift/crafts getting done!

So far:

I've finished 3 tutus, 8 headbands, 1.5 pairs of fingerless gloves, 2 big jars of body scrub, 2 jars of hand scrub, 24 meat rub packets (8 each of a chicken, pork, and beef rub), and 30 packages of snowman soup (cute hot chocolate idea).

I AM TIRED! Now on to the rest of the gloves and scarves now that all the food presents are done! Secretly hoping Jerred is home sick tomorrow so I have some extra hands so I can get more done too!!!

  • hehe cheeky i wish. Just wish I had started sooner, but I was exhausted from Maddy not sleeping so I couldn't see straight to do all this stuff.

Oh - and not superwoman - just broke and trying to still spread some kind of christmas cheer when I have no money :-(

  • I have a question about the cost of homemade gifts.

I know, especially when baking that it costs quite a bit for chocolate, packaging supplies, nuts etc.

Do you have secrets to how you have cut down on your spending?

I know shopping this year, I was especially out for the bargain, so I always had coupons, bought on sale etc.  Example I got my Step mom a sweater that was originally $70 at sears for $$15 after their sale and a coupon.

I made the no sew blankets for 3 people, am doing some holiday treats (cookies, truffles and some cakeballs).  That is as far as I got this year w/homemade!

  • A lot of what I made was stuff I buy here for the house anyway - I didn't bake anything, dairy really adds up! I did a bunch of research on gifts that I could make and then decided what I would have the materials for already and what I would need to buy. And did things that I would like too so that I now have hot chocolate special mix for our house too, etc.

And I bought it all over a long period of time so it wasn't one big outlay in December. I already had yarn for gloves and scarves (lots of yarn after 6+ years of crocheting!), I got ribbon on sale on Black Friday for headbands, my tulle I order from a site with super cheap prices and pretty cheap shipping.

The food gifts I stocked up on when things were on sale that I needed and used coupons when I could. I follow several coupon sites - those helped me with food gift costs for sure (I needed some basic ingredients to make scrubs and hot choc gifts).

And my packaging supplies are not fancy - I ordered 100 small resealable bags online (I get free shipping with Amazon prime) for like $5. So all my rubs and snowman soups go in there ;-)

Then a few things at Michael's and I was done. My wrapping will be only with whatever paper I already have here from years of buying it. If it's tissue paper, so be it.

I'm planning to go the homemade route again next year I think, especially since Ben will be more able to help me with stuff. I'll make my list early in the year, start thinking of ideas, and start stocking up!!!!
