grilling related gift ideas

We want to make a gift basket for FIL with grilling themed items. He already has grilling tools, he has a really nice grill, they have skewers (for kabobs).

We're going to stop at B&N tonight to see if they have a cookbook all about grilling. I'm going to make him a homemade seasoning but then we're stuck.

Maybe a bottle of marinade?

any other ideas?

Re: grilling related gift ideas

  • Marinade is a good idea.

What about a grill basket (for veggies, seafood, etc) or a grill stone (kind-of like a pizza stone for the oven but you use it's for the grill instead for meats) or a nice digital meat thermometer (perhaps the kind where you put the thermometer in the meat and then there's a cord that goes to the outside of the grill where the display is so you don't have to keep opening the grill cover)?

  • I'd go with a few different kinds of seasoning rubs.  Maybe a set of mitts to wear for the grill too.  There's tons of cookbooks on BBQ/Grilling.
  • As pp said, veggie baskets are really great to have. You could also get him a cedar plank or some rib rub.

  • Homemade BBQ sauces are good too. Shish-ka-bob skewers too.
  • much to my dismay, DH said he already has a grill basket (great idea though!) and cedar planks.

Mitts are a good idea. I'd bet he has a thermometer though...

I jokingly told DH I was going to buy a bag of charcoal and call it good for cryin' out loud. Seriously, this Man is tough to shop for!

  • Grill basket, wood chips, a smoker box if he has a gas grill, a magnetic light for grilling at night, a remote thermometer, marinades and spice rubs, a cook book - I personally recommend anything by Steven Raichlen, a pizza stone - look for one that is grill safe, a box of steaks (??), a beer can chicken stand (bed bath and beyond has had them in the past), planks of other types of woods than cedar (apple, maple, cherry, etc.), a nice chimney starter, leather apron or mitts, a table to attach to the side of the grill (if you know what kind he has)...

lol, can you tell I used to work in a cooking store?!

  • I die for your TS chipotle-pomegranate sauce on pork tenderloin.

One of my favorite things is kebab baskets - nothing to actually skewer.

    Salmon grilling plank.

A light that clips to the grill lid for grilling in the dark.

Extra heavy-duty oven mitt for grill duty.

normally I'd recommend grilllovers.com but their site is under construction...

  • We have bobby Flay's "Grill It!" cookbook and love it, also there is a Mario Batalli Nascar tailgating/grilling cookbook that we really enjoy--if he's Nascar fan (we aren't but it was a gift and we use it all summer long)
